Any good CD player/radio units for around $200?

I'm looking into getting a new head unit for my new K-5, and I want it to have a CD player. Are there any good units for around $200? I'm really on a budget and wanna get the best for my money. I've seen a few pioneer units for around $170 that have had some good ratings, but I'm still hesitant. Any suggestions?

I worked at Best Buy for over a year and a half as an installer. I saw alot of units come back for service in that time. The brands with the best track records were Clarion and Pioneer. Sony also did OK. Those would be best for your price range. All good brands. If you were Bill Gates, I'd say buy an Alpine or Eclipse.

I'm really happy with my Clarion 5675...........It has most of the bells and whistles and is still pretty affordable. Clarion also has one of the best warranties on the market.

I started out with a Pioneer DEH-1000, bottom of the line CD player. After about 9 months with that I changed it out for a Sony CDX-M600, the one with the cool little active black pannel... WORST thing I could have done. That pioneer was pretty much skip proof. The sony however skipped if you so much as looked at it wrong. I'm back to pioneer in the blazer. And this one is an even OLDER bottom of the line pioneer I bought from a friend for 65 bucks. Beats the pants off the 300 sony. I'd say get a Pioneer. The DEH-1100 I think is the new base model and its only like 140 at Best Buy up here.

Maybe this info. will help you decide between what the other guys said about Pioneer and Clarion: From what I have seen first hand, read about, etc....The Pioneers have a better FM tuner and Clarions have a better CD player. So decide whether you listen to the radio alot, or CD's more and buy accordingly. Later.

Just put in my Pioneer DEH-P3100 yesterday. Had it for about a year. I bought it for my 73 pick-up but put it in the Jimmy yesterday. Sounds great and I can't get it to skip. I even launched the Jimmy across a set of railroad tracks and it didn't skip a beat.

i have the pioneer DEH-P140 even comes with a remote and i love mine never skips and sound's awesome

Do NOT switch decks looking for more power. Those 45-50 watt ratings on the Sony's are PEAK power. You'll never see that. You'll get the 12watts RMS and thats about it. If you want more power, buy an amp. I've got the same Pioneer (I think thats the same model #) but I also have a Rockford 360a2 and a 150a2 and my system sounds great. (well it did in the honda, its still going in the blazer

I had a Sony for about 6-8 months. Didn't like it all that much. I went froma Pioneer to the Sony back to a Pioneer now.

My Pioneer has only skiped once....well I imagne any thing would..going 35 in bad rain and went off imbankment and droped to the base of a hill 6 feet below...thats the only time it skiped...I love my pioneer, and it's user friendly!

I recommend Pioneer all the way. Ran a DEH-P2000 for over a year, now running a top of the line Premier DEX-P98R(next to the P1R two years ago). Never have had either skip on me.
Also, don't switch HU's hoping for more power. Everything out there will be about the same really. For twice the output(3dB), you need twice the power. Plus, take a look at the size of an amp that is rated 45x4. Now take a look at the size of a HU. Do you REALLY think something so small has an amp that can put out 180W? That peak power you will never see, unless it is struck by lightning.
 
On the "twice the out put twice the power" thing. That can confuse some people. Yeah, 3db is twice the output. BUT if you listen to a car doing say a 130 and a 133 the car hitting 133db won't sound twice as loud. To get it to SOUND twice as loud you need around 9 or 10db increase if I recall correctly. That might sound weird...but it is true. I know this doesn't have much to do with the thread but the mention of it got me thinkin about it

On the thread, I don't plan to go with anything but Pioneer myself from now on. I had my old pioneer skip once on me. Drove my '81 Mazda B2K over a speed bump doing like 45 and the suspension in that thing was never very friendly, AND the deck was mounted at a 45degree angle, most decks wouldn't be too pleased with that but the Pio sucked i up. Can't beat Pioneer for the price either
