any good off road tires for a daily driver

Why not get some 40 inch ground hawgs. No personal experience, but I've heard they last a while and are descent offroad. They like mud, but not sure about rocks.

i've been using

the 35 inch procomp mud tires on my poser truck and they aren't too loud. they have made it through 15 k miles without noticeable wear.

i'll tell ya how they do on real rainy roads after rita passes over me!

I never had any bfg mud tires. But i can say i did not like the way a bfg at is at all. It is good on the road but that is it and seemed to wear fast compared to other mud tires i've had.

I am on my 3rd set of bfg a/t's and they do great on road, and okay in loose pea gravel, mud. They do cake up with mud quick, but they are not a mud tire so I don't expect much out of them, just something better than a street tire that still wears great. The last I just replaced a month ago had about 95K miles on them and still had some tread. This is on the 98 Z71 pickup I have.

Sorry if i was typing all wierd. Just doing my Homework and this at the same time. Are Denman Gumbo Mudders any good? Ok so i do have to stick with the same tire size? What brand of tire company does make 40'? ok where can i go to get a roll cage an how much do they usually go for ?

Gumbo mudders used to be popular, but not as much with some of the new designs that have come out. You can go with any size you would like, it's just a matter of gears, power, clearance, looks, and drivetrain strength. ;) One thing that I recall on...is that the Denman tires are smaller in size vs. Interco tires. Basically, if you want tires about the same size as current than I would look into 38" Interco tires. (the super swamper line)

There are a bunch of companies that make tires. Pick up an offroad truck type magazine, there will be plenty of tire adds in them so you can get an idea.

I have a set of 35" Procomp XTerrains, and a set of 31" BFG Mud Terrains, and no complaints of either.

Bfg At

The BFG AT do have issues with hydro planing in the rain puddles and slushy snow. But if you slow down like your supposed to no issues.
And I have to say they are some of the best tires I have used in icy conditions.

I highly recommend 11.00R16 Michelin XL's. I got mine for $75 each and they ride good, wear very well, and have pretty good traction off road. Plus, they're taller than your 40's. Mine were 70% tread and measured 37 3/4" tall mounted on the truck.

I'll second the 'hawgs for a large long lasting road tire. They have a pretty hard rubber compound, the gumbos seem a lot softer. Really liked my 38.5 gumbos, worked very well in the snow on side slopes as compared to other trucks running TSLs and boggers. As far as looks go the 17-40 'hawg/gumbos have the traditional offroad look with the squared shoulders and all. The 15-38s look narrow for their height. Down side is new ones are not cheap, in most cases swampers are cheaper.

I still like Goodyear Workhorses, best farm truck tire ive ever had, and Ive got 20000 on the set on my blazer, it looks like they could go another 20000

swampers versus nittos

hi im dunno which is better the radial ss swampers or the nittos mud grabblers which is best for road/off road
