I want to build myself a yard debris trailer. About 5x9'. Fairly heavy duty as I want to be able to fill it with a cord and a half of wood and be ok. So if there is any trailer buold threads in a forum that I could use for ideas I think I would be all set.

I don't know of any forums, but, I built/modified a 5x8" trailer awhile ago and it is/ was pretty straight forward. Mine started out as a 4x5 trailer for a large gas welder. I widened it 12" and added 3' of length to the deck and approx 12" to the tongue and then relocated the axle for a little positive tongue weight.
The biggest part is the axle and springs, a great idea I saw posted here somewhere was using a mini van rear axle and springs then just build a frame from some 3 or 4" C channel and pick up a ball mount from tractor supply / harbor freight or the like and you are basically set. I actually used some left over deck boards , Thompson water sealed and all :D, for my floor .

I'll try to find some pics of mine, I recently traded it to a guy (even up) for a 7k 20' trailer as he wanted to downsize :dunno:

if you read 4 wheel drive magazine they are just finishing up a harbor freight/off road camping trailer build up. looks pretty cool. obviously a little different then your usage but some good stuff to see.

my trailer build cheep and easy .

8ft box on 1/2 ton 2wd frame cut off from body swap to plow truck. and tool box in the front wasted space.

added 6" 3/16" thick for tounge build with 2 5/16 ball.

swaped in 9 leaf 1 ton packs and added some heavy duty lt tires.

if you want electric brakes just buy a replacement trailer axle and weld on the perches and shock tab's .

love it and pulls so nice and have had 4k lbs of stone in it and no problems.

also dont forget the mill surplus sales for m101 trailers. 3/4 ton rated and 8 lug axle with parking brake and can get them with canapoy tarp top also. and thay do offer dump option on them. can find at times for 600-900 average price. just need pintle hitch to pull it.

are you dead set on building it? sometimes its not worth the hassel. I talked to this guy a couple years ago and seemed pretty reasonable and will build whatever you want him to. I was going to do a 10' dual axle for firewood and hauling tile and construction waste

As far as the axle, the old family trailer (the one in the pic) has a mobile home axle in it and has hauled full loads of wood ALOT! Im thinking of trying to go that route. I dont know what they are rated for but it ought to be enough. And i guess for now, i am dead set on building it(even if it wont happen for a while yet) becuase i think it sounds fun and i like the idea of getting exactly what i want and being able to change plans half way through.

thats cool. building it yourself is fun :thumb: I'm sure that single axle will do the job, but a dual axle will ride and tow better behind your rig with a full load. just my .02 :D

also older axles like that tend to not have brakes and try finding a 14.5 rim tire on a sunday afternoon trip gone bad. thay also hold the rim on with wedges and not reg old lugnuts.

for your needs realy look at the m101 trailers. cheep and beefy.
