IN A JUNKYARD, UNDER A TRUCK*N E Rust Belt
I'm on vacation in LV, bought an '86 4x4 6.2 3/4 Ton Sub. It needs brakes REAL bad! LF piston popped outta' caliper. Stupid kid owner!

Anyways, I'm bleeding a signal, so i/net is very iffy. Call me if you have some good used parts, and maybe can let me use your driveway.

I have some smaller hand tools, but need a wheel wrench and jack. I'd buy these, as the TEERUK has no spare or jack, etc...

Thx, Andrew 518-572-6450 Currently 9:54 AM...

I don't think Muddy had a 6.2 diesel...

I was just trying to keep this near the top for Andrew though. I'd sticky it, but then nobody would read it. ;)

Things are progressing, I just got back online. In a nice subdivision 'bout a mile from da strip.

I bought a mess 'a hand tools and a jack and lug wrench from FLAP's, and used the shady but tilted parking lot to fix my problem. I'll attach vids of it shortly.

It still needs a rotor or two, but I've got my pedal back, and decent brakes...

Now I think the "box" fuel filter is leaking. Shouldn't a touched it...

I may got to a junkyard tomorrow for better tires. One of these has a good age crack...

I think I eyeballed it a bit on there a few months back.

What do you mean by rougher? Rust, abuse, damage, etc?

No rust, it's from the desert. Engines weak, but runs OK, but stalls sometimes, but starts right up.

Brakes were REAL bad, just rears worked, and not much at that. 1 new tire, spare trash, 2 others age cracked. Off to junkyard tomorrow for better ones... No jack or lug wrench, radio doesn't play.

Windows barely go down, even tho I SPECIFICALLY asked! Rear window went down fast, but won't go up. Steering column very loose. Two of three screw can be tightned, but disasembly required, easier to install better used column, as shifter is also very loose. Shift indicator wire broken. No speedo needle.

Really a $600 truck, I paid $1000. Shoulda' been the price of scrap, as who wants an unusaeble diesel, when it's $4.75 a gallon???

The owner did pick me up at the airport, a 20 minute ride to his house... Saved me an expensive taxi ride...

Gotcha.

My plan for the next long distance vehicle purchase is to find a member on here and have them scope it out.

Check the fuel lines for any cracking or loose clamps. The stalling is likely a tiny bit of air being drawn in through a bad line or connection somewhere. Right before I stopped driving my K5 and put it in storage it was doing the same thing. Surprised the hell out of me the first time...then over a period of three weeks (cold as hell, snowing etc) it would do it more and more often.

When I was pulling the engine and stuff I found a line from the Racor to the engine was cracked and quite deteriorated. Pretty apparent my problem was at least 90% caused by that one poor line. There was actually a small pool of diesel in the intake valley...

Doesn't look like a bad truck, pretty straight, and 3/4 ton 4WD. I think you did OK...although the flight, parts and fuel cost to get it back to NY are gonna make it less of a good deal.

Good luck with the rest of the trip!

Got shipping before the price went nuts, $1100, to 150 miles from home. I lose a day picking it up, but terminal is nice about holding 'till I get a chance...

I changed the fuel filter, and the nipple for the water sensor was broken in the old can, now I think it's leaking, maybe that was the problem the 1st day I bought it???

Puddle of diesel here where I'm bleeding a signal in a very nice residential subdivision... Vid of my brake job very soon...

Mant to post these vids a coupla' days ago...

TEERUK ran fine, gotta' touch hot over the pass outta' California. Kept it below 60mph to conserve $4.75 #2, and tires aren't the best... I'm in Rosamond now at a Corvair rally, Willow Springs...

Anybody have a tilt/cruise column and steering box and 8 lug rotors for sale? I could use 'em... I'll be leaving for Ventura to-nite... Call or text 518-572-6450. Thx fer your interest! I'm having a GREAT Time!!! (Aso could use a speedo head, pref with trip odo...)

Found MOST of the problem, a mangle water-in-fuel sensor "landing:. Cut the rubber seal off the old filter with a scrap razor blade I found on the ground, stacked 'em up, and FIXED! It still stalls from time to time, but starts right back up, hot or cold...

Check the fuel lines for any cracking or loose clamps. The stalling is likely a tiny bit of air being drawn in through a bad line or connection somewhere.

You need someone to talk to on your trip.

Corvairs at Willow Springs? Why?

I have had 3 over the years.

Doesn't look bad. I'm wanting a Diesel eventually...

There isn't much rust out this way, just mold :haha:Vehicles that spend most of their time in the driveway get a nice tinge of green on the side that's hidden from the sun.
