my boss is looking at getting a hino med duty truck.

general info would be great as to the basics.

just dont want to get a pile of junk brand or cant get service.

thanks guys.

FWIW, they are a subsidiary of Toyota now. ( Since about 2003, I think.)

Don't know if that will affect parts or service.

They aren't horrible. We have one setup as a flatbed wrecker at my day job. They are a little crude in small ways compared to IH or GMC. The guy driving that unit beats the hell out of it and it still runs. No specific complaints or repeat problems that aren't driver caused.

Just so you know this truck gets used to only move containers. 10,20, and 40 footers. I know (not supposed to) the driver got caught caught so overweight several times this summer that they had to unload him before he could move. And yes a 40ft can on a 22 ft bed is a very bad idea.

One of the tire companies that delivers to us has all Hino's. According to the guy that drove it they were constantly having problems with the turbo. This could all be because of the driver. He drove like an idiot all the time.

We've upfit one or two at work. Yes the deal with Toyota is true, they are now affiliated with Toyota, however the support was not through Toyota, still ran through Hino at that time (about 8 moths ago).

Don't know what the durability is going to be, but I know the axle capacities were quite a bit lower than IH and the former GMC 5500 series.

BTW the chassis we worked with were not the cab over's you normally see, they were a more traditional chassis with the tilt hood and such.

Don't know where your boss is looking for a chassis, but I know the purchasing group at work has been getting killer deals in Ga. on Peterbilts. Sweet rides, optioned out for less than a run of the mill International.

I should have some tech. info, upfitter & body builder stuff still around if you need any more info.

lookin for rollback tow truck 21-upft deck on it. found a hino 05 with new deck as it was a box truck before. has 65k miles.

somthin tellin me no deal. dont know why but i am not sold on them as i havent realy seen any.

The tow company we use at work has one. The owner had some problems here and there, but he hasn't complained about it too much.

It's also the rig that clobbered the left fender of my Blazer (he hired a new driver).
