I want to get some info on these trucks and was wondering what they use for the front axel. They dont say on the Chevy or GMC web sites.

I believe its a dana 80...someone posted pics of it over on pirate. the funny thing is, it looked like it had balljoints. i will go look for it.

here it is...notice the 4 piston hyd. brakes & tierod behind axle :

here's the centersection...looks like a D70, not a D80...the ujoints look small too, they may just be the same 1480 as in D60's:

here is the last pic, the ubolt mount is funny and those inner c's are simply 100% pure beef:

Just saw the specs in 4WOR...

Its the biggest front axle Dana Corp makes:

Super Dana 70 high pinion, 5.13 gears, 10 3/4" ring gear!, says giant u-joints but does not specify actaul size.

Yep, pretty pictures of it. Driverside drop with a high pinion. BIG dual pistons(lets see 15s on that :))

don't forget that they say the 14 bolt's ring gear is 10-1/4" in the same article. :D also, they have like a bone stock IFS chevy half ton in the reader's rides section...must have really been scraping the bottom of the barrel on that one.

edit: don't even bother saying anything about the 4x4 of the year contest...they feel that the new Jeep Grand Minivan is the best, so just let them have their opinion:screwy: I am actually surprised their hasnt been a Porsche Cayenne tested yet.
