Looks like I’m taking a job that will relocate me to the Pacific NW.

I need to get at least three of my vehicles moved

Suburban on 37s
1969 Corvette
1951 Ford Custom

Any ideas or recommendations? My work got an obscene quote and is pushing back. Any thoughts on potential cost?

Where have you been?
I’ve been around but messing with the other toys more lately. I’ll keep you in mind if I need someone to keep them lubricated. Initial quote was $14K to get them to northern WA Not sure if that is enclosed or not but think it was for all four vehicles.F9723AA7-DBF9-4BEE-97B0-AD38F32B80C0.jpeg

Appreciate the lead. Called and said they only do cars as a back haul and wouldn’t be interested.

I don’t fly but my gf and I will drive to Tennessee and pick two up and take it to WA if you give us a ride back
Seriously, I was thinking the same. If I drove our Silverado and car trailer from here to TN and then to WA and back home again it would be about $3500 for fuel and hotels. About the worst part is the 7 days it would require.

I appreciate the potential offers and the encouragement.

Yeah, it’s a long way. Just driving them is likely in the $4K range for gas. Plus any potential issues that pop up. Vette and Ford both have new drivetrains. 302/AOD in the Ford and Zz4/tremec in the Vette. Decent hotel bill, as well, as return trips. All three classics drive nice, but all three would be taxing on the drivers. Probably doable for $8K-10K(including some gifts) but still need folks with that much availability. And what happens when stranded in Wyoming.

I figure there is around $2500 in gas for a big rig at $5 per gallon of diesel. I have reached out to a couple of logistics companies but crickets so far.

I plan to get more details on the initial quote but the company usually will only move one vehicle. They were willing to work with me but weren’t expecting $14K, I guess. The total move will likely be $75K from what they shared.

If they pay me(not on PTO) to move them one by one myself, after gas and hotel, I don’t think they’d come out much cheaper.

I live in Washington State. Fly me out and I'll drive one back. There are other CK5ers who live up here too who might volunteer. Time off work is no problem. I can't image it being more taxing then driving my square body cross country.(which I've done multiple times)

Shipping is stupid expensive at the moment. I have a truck big enough to haul 2-3 vehicles at a time but I opted not to buy a trailer that big because I would need a CDL crossing state lines as soon as I haul a vehicle for someone else. One at a time I can stay below the 26K GVWR CDL requirement (13025 GVWR on truck, 12900 GVWR on derated 14K trailer) but it isn't cost effective on normal cars. Tennessee is also out of the way for where I typically travel to visit family in NW Illinois. I would charge $1.5-2/loaded mile if I went out of the way to pick something up for one vehicle and you are ~2500 miles for the haul to the PNW.

You will get a better deal if you have several vehicles shipped with one carrier and fill the truck. It used to be $4-5K for one full truck load cross country. Even with the increase in fuel, I would expect less than $10K for sure. Best to get quotes directly from the trucking companies and avoid brokers. I would recommend splitting up your quotes though, put the two cars together as more shippers can handle them on multilevel trailers (open and enclosed) and they can bid cheaper if they fill the truck with more vehicles. Then quote the suburban by itself and get a set of rollers to get the height as low as possible. Anything over 7 feet tall gets expensive as it doesn't fit on the multilevel trailer.

I do have acreage within an hour of Seattle if you end up needing temporary storage as vehicles get out here until you get a place to put them.

@kennyw huge gratitude for all the tips and info.

Maybe the $5K quote is legit. Just seems low compared to what I was expecting after the first quote. The Vette is stock height and the ford is on airbags. Still a little low.

They didn’t ask about the suburban size but it’s definitely taller than 7ft. It has a roof basket that’s another 10”.

Hopefully, we can lock down a place soon but they’re going to give me a while to sort it out.

I’m free to live anywhere between Eugene, OR and Ketchikan, AK. Aiming for Bellingham right now but still need to do some visits.
