Hey Guys,

OK, long story short, Austrian intern living with my friend for next 3 months. We do adventures every weekend. (Kern River Whitewater Rafting, Sequoia National, San Gabriel OHV Park, and San Bernardino Mountain 4x4 trails to name a few in the last couple weekends)

Now that we're past the short story part, we want to go to the Grand Canyon this weekend. I know, it is last minute. Mathers Campground on North Side is booked for a month for vehicle/tent sites. So are all other campgrounds I found. Camping "at large" (aka just out anywhere in the National Park) appears to be allowed, but "every year 30,000 applications are received and only 13,000 accepted, usually 6 months in advance".

Do any of you know where we can just drive the M1009 and set up camp with a tent with out making trouble?

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes and thanks in advance,

Dave

Rangers had guided me to this unmarked beaten trail. I would best describe it as an unimproved road, it was easy to take my 2wd rental car into. It was off the north rim. It was spacious, quiet, nobody really around except a few other campers. By far one of the most memorable camping experiences with my family. Bring water, and unless rules have changed, no open fires. So bring a stove. But the morning views are spectacular, your right off the edge.
