I know its a 10bolt, I dont care, its what I have and im not changing. lol.

Im bored and thought it would be cool to come up with a Bolt-on Axle truss. This will be an over the top (compression style) as apposed to a (tension style) under. From what ive read, this is better design.

Anyways. going to work on it this week, should be pretty simple. but I think itll work well.

If anyone is interested ill do a photo essay on it. if not, than I wont, lol

front or rear? Id be interested in one for the front as mine will be sticking around for a while but Ive already swapped the rear.

Here are a few pic of mine. What you can't see is the is a ring sandwiched between the diff cover and the housing that attached to the truss. Also from the front of the truss there is a bracket that bolts to the pinion

Thanks.. that is my basic design. Im exploring the full potential of my 10bolt. I know everyone is all Blah Blah BLah about building up a 10bolt but I dont wheel too extreme and have had good luck thus far.

Already talked to 4x4 fab shop, going to start getting some of the pieces I need. I think itll turn out pretty cool.

Ive got an idea for the front which is going to take some creativity as there is alot of stuff in the way. I want to do OVER the TUBE type, as I dont have much ground clearance as it is (running 33s)

Just keep it close to the housing and your should be ok. I'll get some pics of the other side today

Yea, Ive seen some that have a big arch or are almost square shaped.

Im debating whether to do with flanges with holes or do like you did with the round stock for the bolts. The only downside to the flanges with holes is all the drilling that will be required . lol.

Well, im off like a school girls prom dress. Picked up the bolts/nuts I need and had to order some metal, apparently what I want is an Odd size and no one carries it. Already talked to 4x4 shop (the one that will do the welding) and we are set to drop Blazer off on Sat and hopefully next week be done. Ive always got a line on getting it powder coated.

Im going to do a funky green color as this is what we use for work and I can get it done for free, as long as I just toss this into the pile with the cabinets while they are getting Powder coated. Plus itll stand out some and people will see how it fits, etc, incase I decide to go into production. lol.

I wish you luck on this idea. Honestly the 10 bolt is a reliable axle if it's kept in it's safety zone. Thanks to the internet we all can see the carnage that can happen when it's pushed over the line, even for just a second. I think it's a good idea, just include lots of pictures and testing. btw how big are you trying to go 46" or just for the bling of it?

I have a few reasons for this project;

1) Shear boredom and the challenge of it.

2) There are no readily available bolt-on 10bolt axle trusses, so im making something that COULD be marketable

3) Blazers arent the only thing running 10bolts, toyota and Sami guys have used the 10bolt in some of their build up, they are dime a dozen and there is some aftermarket, i.e. lockers, gears, axles, covers. So, why not a truss?

4) Im only running 33s but plan to go to 35s, ive already got the best chromoly axles and running a Loc-rite locker, I wheel pretty lightly but there is always something to be said about over engineering a piece of equipment. It simply couldnt hurt to have it on there, I may have never needed it but like I said in 1-3, something to do, they arent available and someone else might be interested, I dont mind doing the leg work.

5) I do plan to get it powder coated a nice bright green color, so I guess itll be a lil blingie, but im only doing it to make it stand out from under my truck, so those that are interested can see exactly how it bolts up and looks and itll contrast against the darker parts of the under carriage.

6) And finally, Because I can. :haha:

Started on the rear truss.

Axle tube supports, 6" long, 1/4" thick, 3 1/4" ID.

Axle cover plate. I only went 1/4 the way around, I wanted to retain the factory T connection for the rear brakes.

I left the plate extra long, not sure what im going to do with the end, Ive got a couple idea, I can either cut down and put a tab or plate on the cross support of the truss or have it bent to meet up with the cross support. Undecided just yet.

Ive got grade 8 bolts that are 1/4" longer for the rear cover and not pictured is the round stock that will be used for the bolts.

I'm interested in buying, or building an axle truss for my GM 10 bolt front
