Any one have experience with the Hurco brand CNC machining centers?

Good bad the ugly:ears:

Thanks,

My opinion one of the biggest pieces of **** on the market. They have one at work and you constantly have to make adjustments to keep in tolerance. You looking for new or good used machine to purchase?

I have ran alot of cnc machines but never herd of that machine. I think the first reply says alot though.

Well I guess I'll classify that as ugly:haha: Not what I was hopping for.

So anyway, what machine are you talking about there. This is a BMC-20.

I can pick this up for less than a Bridgeport knee mill with out a DRO. It's in very good shape for the year, '93.

If it was super cheap would that sway your opinion or would you stay firm?

Same exact machine, only ours is a couple yrs newer ('95). I personally stand firm on my opinion on a Hurco.

Bridgeports go for cheap around here. My dad's shop just bought a bridgeport EZTrak that is only a few yrs old and they only paid $6000. And its in perfect work condition.

The Hurco machine really does suck but the ultimax program is very awsome. I personally like Mazak.

Depending on your price range, I can recommend the Haas mill. They are super simple and easy to work on. They are designed as a throw away, but are easily rebuildable. Our shop has been using one for 2 years almost 24-7 with no problems.

The Fanuc Robodrill is a turd. Not very well constructed and their quick NC function doesn't make things very quick.

We have 2 Mori mills that have been in use for 15+ years in the machine shop. Seldom have a problem with those either.

We use Mazak Ultra 630's for destructive testing only. Thier customer support is horrible. I mean absolutely HORRIBLE. Their software isn't very user friendly either.

I have heard of Hurco, never anything good tho.

Can not beat a HAAS IMHO. This IS the machine I WILL own someday. Mazatrol can be a pain in the ass, nothing beats Mastercam as far as programming.

Actually you can't really use a haas or any g code machine really without a mastercam or some other cam software to it's full potential.

Once you figure out mazatrol it is really awsome but this could turn into a ford chevy dodge thing;)

One thing is for certain.....HURCO Sucks I ran 2 of them back in the mid 80s to the early 90s and they are a terribile machine but I do love there software:D

Edit; here is one of my babies that I paid off last May:D

Oh I totally agree here. I use Mastercam to do all my design work and programming.

No we have done some custom automotive stuff but mainely stick with laser, semiconductor and food processing manufracturing. This whole trear my truck apart and try and put it back togeather is new to me within the last year and a half:eek1: It would be cool to come up with products like diy and ord but I'm not that creative and am content in the cut throat world of a job shop.:(:D

Thats cool, no problem. Job shops are cool. Some great machinist's out there in those shops. I cut my teeth in nothing but job shops. I did go to trade school but got right into a job shop early and stayed there for 15+ years of my machinist career. I have worked at several shops thru the years and learned a ton along the way from each of them. I always say I have made everything from kids toy parts to parts that have gone into space. My parts have been in wars and in theme part rides. I love being a machinist and I'm proud of the heritage of our trade.
