I know cars did the same vintage, and working with programming my prom, I see that it's an option to turn off/on. Could be handy when driving slow and need that little extra boost from the power steering.

Never dealt enough with the '87-91 trucks to know if there were PS hoses that had that switch integral. Anyone?

Are you referring to the EVO system?
If so I donlt think any of the 87-91 trucks used it. I have seen it all over the 96 and newer chevys though.

I guess I'd have to look up the EVO system. :)

As far as I know, the PS switch was used to make sure engine RPM stayed constant or was bumped up a hair when the pressure went up, I assume meaning when there was some force on the wheels.

OK. That is not the EVO. I have no knowledge of a solonoid or stepper motor to control idle while turning. I could exist though. I might have even seen one and just not payed any attention to it.

It would have been controlled by the ECM. :) (at least later on, I *think* some carbed cars had it late as well)

My '88 Camaro harness has the connector for it, if the trucks used one later on, it would be pretty easy to adapt to my setup.
