A-Zone sells one for like $30. It has a little sensor you slip in the radiator fins and the switch unit mounts nearby. Add a $5 relay and you're done. You have to pop the hood to adjust the set temp, but how often do you need to do that?

I ran for a couple of years with a hot water heater thermostat strapped to the side of my radiator. No joke. It fed a pair of relays, one for each fan. I just had to modify the little stop on it to run at lower temperatures. Unfortunately, that part of the radiator stays hot much longer than the fins do and those fans would blow cold for 5 minutes before shutting off.

Now I use the ECU to turn the fans on and off based on coolant temp.

you can do it through the normal ECU, i know it can be done very easy with a few, you may be able to do it pretty easy with your 747
