I am also new at the CB game here, I was given an antenna which I believe is a 102" whip, has a bend at the top about a foot or so down. I was wondering where you guys have mounted these antennas, and should they be grounded or no??

depending on where you mount it will depend on if it's grounded OK or not. measure the whip to see if it's 102", what is the whip attached to? a magnet mount? ball mount? no mount at all? with a big whip mount i'd clamp it to a rear tire carrier or your bumper if you don't mind it hitting the cap/body as it sways around. you would have to do a solid mount on the top of the cab, if you use a magnet you will still knock it over. mine is on top and i cut off tree branches when i speed down country roads....

radio shack sells a $1.99 clip that attaches to your gutter and has a little hole to hold the tip of the antenna down. if you mount it to your bumper you may not be able to hook it over unless you have the topper off, in that case i'd mount it to the body on the driver's side where the gas door is on the passenger side. they make spring/ball mounts that have a 90deg. angle to them for side mounting. eventually mine will be moved to the side when my sunroof goes in....
