I know it's been done a bunch but I'm curious if it creates any problems -

* Cooling: does moving it closer restrict air flow to the radiator causing raised temps or overheating?

* Core support: since the center latch support will need to come out does the core support start to sag at the latch (from closing the hood)?

:ears: :thumb:

I recessed mine. I don't have cooling problems, even w/ the 540 stroker. I am running a kick butt Griffen Rad. though.

As far as the hood latch after I ditched the support under it, I left the latch but my beat up hood would latch very well. It would push it down. It finally pushed the latch out of the core support. Broke the rivots that hold it in. I installed hood pins after that & now it is trouble free.

Mine is mounted pretty low and doesn't seem to block much air. I did have to modify the connections to my oil cooler. I intended to modify my center support and reinstall it, but have not, and there are no problems yet.

I'm probably going to call Kert tomorrow and get one of the winch mounts like nofeartruckin00 had built here - http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=220404

I studied the pics in that thread and did some measuring today. I think I'm going to have him shorten it a bit and try to drop the winch down about 2".

It's going to break my heart to cut the grille but I think I'd rather have the added approach angle than look cool while my winch is buried into ledge. :rotfl:

I don't think you will miss the grill. I like how mine looks without. I hope you don't mind me hi-jacking w/ these picks.

Heck no man, feedback and pics are what I want! :thumb:

That's a great side pic, it's really close to what I'm looking for.

I found something interesting after installing the electric fan on the K5. I installed an off switch and an on switch. I wanted to test airflow at highway speed. I started with the fan on at 60 mph and it was cooling fine. I turned the fan off and what do you think happened? Then temp started to go up. It normally runs about 160 on the temp guage with the factory mechanical fan or the Lincoln electric fan. I let the temp go up to about 200 per the temp guage and turned the fan back on. The fan started to cycle and keep the motor cool like its supposed to.

My conclusion was, there is not enough air flow going thru the radiator without the fan assistance pulling the air thru the radiator, in my K5 anyway. I do have the winch mounted in front of the radiator, but I also have two big B&M coolers and an air conditioning condensor. I think the fan draws more air thru the radiator than can be forced thru via driving, with or without the winch.

I had this setup at the time.
