I love the look of the late '60s CK dashes and don't care for the square bodies. I been thinking about using a DIY dash because its similar look with a little work.

Pros or cons and layouts, I like to hear them

Thanks

Absolutely no reason at all unless you want to fab your own Al. dash up. That's what I did because nobody made one at the time. And for my need the DIY would have been more work to fit in. My dash mounts to my cage. Was easy fairly easy to fab up to fit to the cage.

what gauges did you end up using?

I bought the truck from Atlanta, it is pretty much prefect other than water based fade. It still has the original paint and the underside is prefect and I mean prefect. It just sucks that GM used the crap paint on the top side.

nah, some mud but no rocks. i just love the look of the flat dash.

It's very sturdy and simple to install. I like mine but make sure you paint it with something that can be wiped down with a rag or powder coat it. Plus, you don't want it reflecting the sun so stay away from colors that will do that.

Cool, I think I am going to go for it, what kind of gauges are you guys running?

Ok mister smarty pants, I meant which style of Autometer. I am with you with regard to Autometer. I am not going through all of this to install Wong Dong gauges....btw the analogy by no means was meant to be demeaning to any members named Dong.

what ever you like . but speedo in my opinion should be electric or newer gps unit . this is for easy of install / hook up / calibration .

:D
Just about any pattern you desire I'm sure Kert can whip up. Mine has two 5" IIRC gauges front and center with 2 1/16 gauges spread around it. Total of 8 gauges. Not all necessary but since I had the room and was starting from scratch why not

Better to have the plan in the beginning then retrofitting it. Thinking about using a texture finish on dash and using a clear on the cluster. Thoughts?

As long as the texture finish is smooth and cleanable. Are you talking natural aluminum with a clear? I think that would end up shiny. My dash is black but around the gauges it's more of a textured charcoal. It has a clear or slightly glossy look to it at an angle. Occasionally it will catch the sun and be bright.

Check my build, not many pages back there is a good picture of the dash.
