any tips on rear hatch repair?

i have a 1972 jimmy with the single wall topper. it has a crack from where the hinge mounts down to the glass on the back lift gate, wondering if any1 has any ideas on how to do a solid repair. thanx roostr32

I'm assuming it's not screwed up enough to hafta R&R the whole hatch, which is way expensive.If it is just a simple crack, you may get by with a simple fibreglas repair kit from any autoparts store. You cut out the dry patch to fit, paint the (mixed 2-part) resin over the area to be reinforced, stick the patch over the wet resin and then coat with more resin. This will make an ugly but effective patch. Takes a while to dry and the fumes will knock you over -- so be careful. It can be sanded and painted later.Good luck.
