Curious to see if there is a particular trail you'd like to see offered at the 2011 event. No guarantees we'll use your suggestions, but if there seems to be some trails several people want to run we probably will.

Hmm there's a bunch i haven't done lol. I have done kane creek and it was a good time might be doin some others at easter jeep.

I have received one other request for Kane Creek.

Kane Creek, Elephant hill, BFE, Hells, Fisher Valley for a lite run, Tri Fecta... I know here we go... haha Pritchet, Thats my two sents

...Elephant Hill, ...

That's in Canyonlands National Park - and in San Juan County, as opposed to Moab, which I believe is Grand County. Would an Elephant Hill run be covered under the BlazerBash permit?

The trail doesn't offer a lot of rockcrawling challenges, but a lot of red rock scenery. We've done a 'long' version last spring (one thing missing from that is "the Squeeze"..) that turned into some 60 miles of dirt - lot's of really cool red rock formations, and coming in the 'back door' into Canyonlands NP gives you that 'out there in middle of nowhere' feeling  . The overlook over Salt Creek Canyon is just unreal. One could add a few more miles to go to the Confluence Overlook - one of the nicest parking lots you'll find in BFE, a toilet that I've been told has air fresheners replenished on a regular basis by NP staff :eek1:, and about a quarter mile hike to see the confluence of the Colorado and the Green River...

By the way, it's about 70+ miles one way from Moab to get to the trailhead...

As I said: not a lot of rockcrawling challenge; open on 33's ought to do it, and as usual, a locker never hurts...

Very True it would be a full day ride. I think a good one though. On the Squeeze play. Can a Full sized rig get through there??? you guys make the call I just made some suggestions of what Id like to do. :dunno: Figured others might too. If not IM cool I just love going and cant wait. Hope I get all my upgrades done in time:haha:

We would need approval from the National Park and I'm not sure how that works. We might not have a problem though, because I'm guessing there would be a small number of vehicles interested in the run. There would be a park entrance fee.

I think it would be a fun trip to make, but not for the faint of heart in regards to a long day in the seat. Also would need to be vehicles that are in very good condition because recovery/repair would be a huge issue.

I'm not opposed to offering it, but there would definitely be some strict requirements on the vehicles making the run. We would also want to plan on an early start. I think it would be a fun trail for some of the people that have been to Moab several times, but not visited this region of the Canyonlands Nat'l Park.

Can someone do a map of this run? Sounds like my kind of day.
I thought so :). It's on my GPS computer - at home...

Best I can do for now: the Elephant Hill trail proper is circled at the left. It's an in/out spur over Elephant Hill itself, together with a one-way loop. The blue trail starting in North Cottonwood Canyon is the route we took. As you can see, we missed the orange part of the Elephant Hill trail itself (due to the one-way dealio).

ck out dangerous drives Moab they were supposed to go thru Elephant hill but had to divert but a few of us are planning to make the trip even if anothertime then BB ck it out

Some more info on Elephant Hill, plus options:

39 miles from Moab to the turnoff onto Hwy 211
20.1 miles (green-ish track) to the turnoff of Rte 107/North Cottonwood Canyon
20.1 miles (purple-ish track) to the trailhead for the Elephant Hill trailhead in the National Park (i.e. park fee, no dogs)
7.1 miles for the Elephant Hill trail itself (blue track)
3.1 miles one way to the Confluence overlook (total 6.2)

Optional - the long way = another 50+ miles of dirt, but really cool scenery:
17.6 miles from the turnoff from Hwy 211/Rte 107 to the Salt Creek/Big Pocket Overlook
8.2 miles to the turnoff into Beef Basin
16.7 miles though Beef Basin into the back door of the NP down to Bobby's Hole
9.1 miles to meet up with the Elephant Hill trail

The climb over Elephant Hill starts right at the trailhead; rocky switchbacks but nothing bad; then a little plateau and down the other side where some spots have been reinforced with concrete by the park, on to hit the loop section (one way clockwise). The trail was a bit rough and rocky/bouncy, but nothing bad. The Squeeze was really tight last time I drove through it in '08 - tight as in mirrors folded in, and you won't make it out of the truck through the door, or the window, if you want to get out, it'll be via the tailgate... Last spring, we did the long way around. Long way = no
Squeeze, join the E-hill trail just after it on the loop. Get to do the Silver Stairs, though, on the way to the turnoff for the Confluence overlook.

The 'long way' was mostly smooth dirt road, but that was before the big storms last summer. No idea on trail conditions now, and the Park Service is not a useful source of info - they rather not be bothered with people driving around in the far end of the park... and they typically 'discourage' motorists from using that route...

... oh, and gas means either Moab, or Monticello... and speed limit in the Park is 15mph :)
