for instance, our 1/2 ton axles. i know here, they are considered about as valuable as scrap metal. But what about toyota or jeep guys? woudnt our 1/2 ton gear be an upgrade for them? so for those of us upgrading to 1 ton stuff, couldnt we advertize 1/2 ton stuff for sale elsewhere where it might be more desireable?

also, with 14bff rears, especially the dually axles, plenty of guys get the dually axle, and put SRW hubs on it.... but what about the leftover parts, any use for a SRW 14bff with DRW hubs??? i dont even know what the WMS would be for that setup.

Front 10b's are very desirable for the cherokee's (v8 models come with 44's in the rear).

love the truck bed trailer idea....... hadnt thought of that.

so the front 10b could go to jeep guys... the rear 10 bolt becomes a trailer axle.......

any use for the frankenstein 14b????

Thats awesome.

Heres the thing with ten bolts. Pretty much all of the non chevy wheel community has this idea stuck in their heads that 10 bolts are pieces of garbage and a dana 44 is much better.

We all know its not true because they both came in our trucks and we're not stupid jeepers :) BUT that being said many of them will steer far clear away from ten bolts.

For the most part chevy axles in general arent very desired simply because they are pass side drop and everything since yj's have been drivers side. Yes there are some guys who flip a dana 300 or get an atlas case to make it work but the majority would rather bolt up a hp ford 44 or 60 and be done.

what about putting the pinion pointed down.. .and mounting a lawnmower blade to it??????? :)
 Maybe a flail chain just for knocking down the brush.

I had to add that axle housings make great mailbox stands. Seen it before, and anyone who crashes into it will be sorry.:D

Put an ad in the local classifed paper or craigslist. Last set of 3.08 axles i had sold for $250, There are a ton of people that have blown out there front or rear end and dont want to change to 3/4 or 1ton and just want bolt in replacement with matching gears.

I saw an article with a guy running in the 9's with a 10 bolt car axle, which I believe is not as strong as a truck axle. (Smaller ring gear.)

They are good for street rods & what not.

that spineroo is absolutely hilarious!!! better build one before they're illegal too.....:D

Which cherokee's??? The older ones had stock 44's front and rear and the Xj's were dsd and the front they won't work in them.

Somebody needs to build a spinaroo that keeps spinng after the forward movement has stopped.Won't be long before the Air Force starts usin them to train pilots.

Later cherokees were 30 front 44 rear if they had a v8 or tow package.

Yes the 8.5in 10b which came in some g-body cars in the 80s and in cyclone/typhoons are a very desired rear axle for cars. The 8.5in is a very good axle for just launching. Its the 7.65in version that most cars and s10s came with that are garbage.

71-81 camaros had the 8.5, just about as strong as a 12 bolt, i compare them to the 8.8 fords.

Yes, i know the 70s were same body style, but they had the 7.5+8.2s i believe, witch is weaker, but they also had the 12 bolts in 70.

Didnt some of the 89-91 k5s have a 30 spline ten bolt opposed to a 28 spline? i was looking at a 3.73 ten bolt pair to replace the 3.08 axles in my 86, and the 30 spline would be a little beffier than stock and give me the better gear. Id like a dana 60+ 14b swap, but that will be further down the road.

Officially 89 was when they started putting 30 spline axles in. I've heard the official word however is to actually check before you buy parts. GM liking to use up the old pile of parts as they're known to do.

I've also heard that while the 30 spline axles are stronger the carrier is known to be a failure point. A friend of mine did suffer a 10 bolt 30 spline carrier grenading once and it just about wrecked everything in there. Stockish Z71 on 33's.

You seem to be referring to XJ's, since you said "later cherokees", but they didn't come with V8, and only a couple years used the rear D44 (87-89 IIRC). The later model V8 Grand Cherokees came with a sh!tty D44 with aluminum center section. Very few of the Jeep crowd want full width axles unless they're going to 1ton stuff for ginormous tires.:doah:
I think I'll build one of them there brush flails out of one of the spare axles laying around.:D

I know the zj's came with 30's in the front and 44's in the rear... like stomis said those were the v8's though(not sure about the tow package part, my owners manual says the tow package is a larger tranny cooler, hitch, and some other stuff... don't remeber seeing anything about different axles.)

Not sure on what years had what but I do know that my 97 v8 (with tow package) zj cherokee has a 44 out back and a 30 up front.

Front 10 bolts are pretty easy to move but the rears just plain suck. I have seen rears on stock rigs with open diffs and 31s break. More than once. Of course I have also them hold up to several trips to Moab and light wheeling with a lock right and 36" swampers too

What is this carrier problem you speak of with the newer 10 bolts, guess I may have find a limited slip to put up there in my new project.

And not to start an argument but all V-8 ZJs had the aluminum Dana 44 that isn't really a Dana 44 kind of like the new JK 44s they aren't a 44 like we think of them

I would say list them on Craigs and move them for whatever you can get. The other choice would be to put them under whatever your 1 ton stuff came out of and sell that vehicle as a complete rig. I know that lots of people in so cal blow up 1/2 ton running gear all the time and just replace it with the same.
