Any way to ID 28 or 30 spline without tearing down?

Excellent, glad to hear it. Does it feel like more power with the lower gears?

Yep, slab came out VERY nice. All the steel for the car port part is ordered. Delivery set for after my big 3 gun this month the 27th or 28th. I'm so ready to put my axle in but this weekend is full up with family "stuff".

Yes I can definitely feel a difference, not a huge one but a difference nonetheless. I've been driving this truck for 12 years, and it's going to take a little bit of getting used to the sound of the RPM difference at highway speed.

Guess what is 80% installed.......................

Little more and it's drivable. And then parking brake to finish making it legal when I get to it.

Yes and no. It's up and driving nicely. I have parking brake cables left to do. With this crappy weather, it has stalled both my car port and my suburban work.

We did do a brake test from 75 the other day, I swear it felt like my face was pulling off. Never had an old truck stop that hard.

ETA: also the axle width was PERFECT!!!

Ordered today:

WooHoo! :woot:

Maybe I'll have her fully operational in another week or so. Since we're in the El Nino monsoon season, it would be nice to have the front end working if I need it.

:D

Yep, the weather is killing me. Can't even start a project due to random rain.

Glad I saved you a few bucks with the rear re-gear.

I picked up a Ranch Hand grill guard for a 04 Silverado for free, going to see if I can fit it up to the burb and build the bumper from it.

Got my front gears and True-Trac put in last night. I started Saturday at 3pm, and pulled an Energizer Bunny, knocked off this morning at 6:30 when I completed it. A couple of days ago, I happened upon a guy at a gas station driving a 91 blazer that was built... We started talking, and he gave me his card and told me I could use his 3000 sq ft shop (complete with LIFT!) if I needed to. Absolutely awesome. I worked thru the storms all night and didn't have to crawl around on the concrete on my knees doing it.

K5's been running crappy off and on for a while now. I've put in a new distributor, since i had a pickup coil fail, along with Oil pressure sensor, new Fuel Pump relay, rebuilt the TBI today with new injectors, since the injectors weren't pulsing right. THEN I noticed a burnt-up plug boot laying on the exhaust manifold. Guess I'll be buying/installing plugs/wires/wire loom tomorrow.

Thanks again for that rear end, Cyclic....

Well, I've been rebuilding the transfer case this week while I'm off. It was not wantung to stay in 4HI and wouldn't shift to 4LO.

So, after looking at the casting numbers on one of the old axle shafts on the old axle, I found the following numbers: 9547

When I looked these up on the interwebs, I found this OMIX axle shaft replacement. Notice the last 4 digits of the part number is 9547, and it's a 28 spline...

Sorry for the hijack, but you feel this info is pretty safe then?

I ask because i have an '88 also, and am thinking of ordering a lunchbox locker, and i have to know spline count before i order.

Thanks!

I think it's pretty safe - it's the only reference on the web I could find for that part number.
