Hey all, I work at Fedex Ground and the truck I drive (owned by my boss who is a contractor) has a 6.2 in it. The V-belts are giving us hell lately (alt belt keeps stretching and then sqeals every time I start for like 30 seconds=60-90 times a day!)and I was just curious if the serp belt setup I have laying around from a TPI firebird would work on it??? I have everything from the car, all the brackets/crank pulley/alternator...I even have the p/s pump if we could use it. Just trying to figure out if this might work, whole or in parts so we can stop d*cking around with the belts every morning and deliver some crap to people so I can then come home and work on MY truck!!! :haha: Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks in advance.:bow::bow:

Unfortunately, your TPI stuff, nor any other gasser stuff will work. Gotta get a setup from a 6.5L

That's what I was afraid of. Guess I'll see what I can find out here. Thanks!

As a temporary "cure" till you find a serpentine setup,I'd try using a belt like a Gates "Green Stripe" or a Dayco "GPL" series usually used on lawn & garden equipment, that have Kevlar cords..my '85 Burb's 6.2 squealed like a stuck pig every time I'd start it for a good 3-5 minutes ,even with a properly tentioned new Gates 7480 belt,it drove me batty, and you could see that the voltmeter wasn't rising like it should too--.

I put a Gates Green Stripe 6848 (1/2" x 48") belt on it I had lying around from something I fixed that was in decent shape, and it no longer makes a peep, and it hasn't loosened up or stretched yet either, unlike the other belt I had on it (and one I put on my pickup's 6.2 that was a "fractional HP" belt, that one stretches like a rubber band and I need to adjust it every time I have plowed with it lately!)...the Kevlar belts are 1/2" instead of the 7/16" "stock" GM sized belts,so they will sit a bit high in the pulleys, but so far I haven't had one derail on me,and I've wound the engine up to the govenor limits enough times that it should have,if it were going too..
I noticed my voltmeter went up a good 2 volts using the kevlar belts too!..

That's fantastic news! I'll see if I can scrounge up one of those out here. I really appreciate it.

I pulled a 6.2 from a 89-90 ifs truck and it has a full serp set up on it.the alternator is different and sits on the opposite side.i will be putting it on my truck when i replace its engine.
