Anybody ever tried to rig up a d60 for rear steer?

I have seen electric over hydraulic rear steering used on vehicles before. There isn't that much current draw at all, it works well.

Willyswanter runs two pumps, one for his hydro assist, and the other for hydroboost brakes, which can't efficiently co-exist with each other.

Today on "Trucks" on spike tv they did the whole episode on installing a rear wheel steer on a truck. They used a full hydrolic system though, and the one box did front and rear.

i have yet to see a single custom built rear steer system (read-NOT GM FACTORY) that was not full hydro. its just way to complicated to have a drag link, pitman arm and tie rod in the rear. most rear steer stuff ive seen is done with rockwells due to the stregnth issue. a d60 is plenty strong for the front, but they dont do so well in the back under a heavier truck like a blazer or 'burban.

Why would you want to do that on your k5? It seems like alot of money spent on something you dont really need. I dunno, just my thought . Jacob

I wouldn't ever do it unless im making 25 bucks an hour and already have a tow rig, fast camaroe, dirtbike, and a lot of extra $$$$

Dana 60 Rear Steer

I have been doing a little checking on doing something for my truck and this is what I am considering. There is a guy on ebay selling GM crate rears from the quadrasteer trucks. They are still in the crate with electric over hydraulic units complete and in tact. Everything need on the rear is there. They are going for between 850-1200 last time I looked. I figure you could get the wiring out of a wrecked truck and a diagram from GM and with the proper sensors and wiring run it just like factory so you can turn in on and off as well as us it as lick steer or reverse steer with the flick of a switch. If that is to much trouble just tap into the factory hydraulics with ram style steering box and us it all the time. Just something I am considering anyway. By the way these dana 60's supposedly already have 35 spline axles with CV joints that are pretty heavy duty.

Thats what I thought. Seems he got ahold of a warehouse of these somehow and maybe don't realize exactly what he has. May think only guys with quadrasteer can use them or something.?????

I watched that and IIRC they used the engine drivin for the fron and ele. for the rear

I am just going to jump in and help answer the question. My good friend put rear steering on his old willys jeep using two D44 front axles. In the rear u just flip the axle upsidown. He installed a separate hydralic pump and used a ram in the rear to control the steering. The problem with it is that he constantly broke CTM wheel joints in the rear axle. Now if you think about it, a tiny willys jeep breaking D44s, imagine a fullsize truck with a D60 in the rear, I don't know if that would be strong enough. Good luck.
