anybody have any good ideas on inner fenders

I need some inner fenders to keep the mud out of my engine compartment but I don't want to use stock metal. I thought about using some of that thick mud flap material and doing some custom trimming. What do you guys suggest. Anybody know where I can get some mud flap material or other thick stiff rubber? <==wow that sounds dirty. If you guys need pics i've got a link to my build thread.

a conveyor belt product would probably be best, as it's smooth on both sides...

truck bed mat would be alright, other than some ridges, etc... I bought this one in the large universal size for my floors... might look funny, but a good material.. http://www.pickupspecialties.com/bedmats.htm

fiberglass are available too...

bedmat, etc seems like it would be rather difficult to get decent.. lots of compound angles, etc.. if you where willing to have it open near the motor with just 2 main bends, front and rear, it could come out decent I think...

Anyplace around you have warehouses that use conveyor belts, fed ex, ups. You could get used belt material. Or fitness supply stores sell rubber for in home use for fitness equipment. Just a couple ideas I had.

we have used rubber bed liners but ive always thought about a piece of sheet metal (removable) running along the frame from front to back

i made inners using some 3/4 or 1" electrical coduit as the frame and covered over with sheet metal. very simple design just to keep stuff off of the engine, these were on a ford ranger i used to race tough truck with. they worked great and were easy to make, the conduit can be bent by hand with a bender and made templates out of cardboard for the sheet metal.
