This is on a local CL. He says its a 1973 CJ5 Mountain Jeep from the Forest Service. It is a single seater. The shifters are between your legs. One seat only. No back or bed.

I wonder if its a one off or if the Forest Sercive only made one. I cant find anything on it though. I do think it would be a cool crawler. Not an average Heep.

It had a V6, But the block is cracked.

What do you guys think? I know most everyone here doesnt like Jeeps, I just thought I would post this.

Depends on the passenger. Might be nice to have them sit on your lap.........:D

I don't know all there is to know about old Jeeps, but I know quite a bit, and I don't place that one.

I swear it looks like a aftermarket build. Wish it was a better picture. The flat fenders date it before the CJ-5, can't see how many slats in the radiator cover.
Hood looks rounded like it was made for the hurricane engine.

If it had a V6, then its almost certainly a replacement Buick. No Jeeps of that era had 6s.
That Buick swap was real popular in the 60s and 70s, because it was a very easy swap.
I came real close to putting one in my old CJ-5, but it did everything I wanted it to do with the F-head 4, and I did not break drivetrain parts.

Plus, with the duals on the rear adding drag and friction, it would top out at 60mph with the top off, windshield down and me hunched down behind the dash.
And that was as fast as I wanted to drive it.

Friend called. Not a jeep product. Must be a custom build. Notice there is not a side panel on the engine. And for it to be a 73 and v-6, deffinately not factory.

He wanted to know if someone is seriously looking at it. If not, he would like to contact the seller. But if you wanted it, he will not call. Does not want to show too much interest, so the seller does not think it is super rare, Barrett Jackson auction material.

Is there another picture I'm not seeing? I just see the one quartering front pic.

And I think the snorkel port was on the right side.

If I zoom in on that picture on CL, I can see the side panel is not there. Still a lot of custom work on that thing.

Ahh, I see it now. I would love to drive it. I wonder how the pedals are set up.
If the shifter is between your legs, I guess the clutch and brake are on the left side and the gas on the right.

Don't want to snatch it into low or high too fast..........

Never saw a "narrow" Jeep like that till today!.....pretty neat thing to have if the trails are real skinny........................................................................I've seen Jeeps from the 60's that had factory Buick V6's in them,229 cubic inch I think...one in a Jeepster around a '66,and a '70 Commando 2 friends owned, and some like them in boneyards..I helped the friend who owned the Commando swap in a Buick 300 V8 out of a '66 Buick Special into his...we sold him the motor out of it at the junkyard...it was a pretty simple swap too..motor looked like a mini Nailhead, with the straight up valve covers..

Thats real cool of that guy to not call, but tell him to call if he wants!!!! I want to go see it. I can take some pics for him if he wants. Its an old timer who owns it. Has owned it for a long time. When i talked to him today, he did mention that it would be a great "rock climber".

I think that jeep is great!! IT is definitely custom. I have a book directly from jeep from back in the day, and it has every jeep built with specs including the farm jeeps with augers and rototillers of the pto. That single seater is no where in it!

It would make a great wheeler.

What I think is funny is that Currie Enterprises had 8 inches taken out of a jeep to build a full body rock racer.

But it had aleady been done. At this proof.

Jeep has 6 slats in the grill, it has to be after market, it would be cool to own, a real eye catcher.

And I thought a Jeep already WAS the narrower solution. Aren't those still stock-width axles? If not, the axles themselves are a very interesting topic. If so, then what is really the point of the build? To ensure you can go wheeling by yourself? It kind of looks like the fenders have been widened to compensate for the narrowed body, which would make it still full width.

And I don't see the point in counting grill slats as the grill has to be either modified or a custom piece.
