Anybody know about newer transfer cases? For a Duramax.

We got a 2001 Duramax that needs a Transfer case.

It has a 263xhd electric shift in it, but it is fried...yes pump rub hole took it out! We bought it that way.

The problem is this case is so burnt up there is no fixing it and I am having trouble finding on that is for the correct year truck. Apparently 01 and 02 are the same T/C and 03 to 07 are slightly different.

Now the only difference is the encoder motor the electrically shifts the case.

I have been told you can swap these pieces from one case to the other so that a 03 or newer case will work in a 01/02.

But I can`t find any info on doing what I want to do.

I can find 03plus Transfer cases for around 600.00 bucks around here but not anything for a 01.

Actually I found one for a 01 but it is in a truck still and it is 4 hours away plus I just don't got time for dat!

Anybody have a clue...cause the guys on the diesel forums don't seem to.

Rock auto shows only 261's (XD-HXD, with 29 or 32 spline counts) available for 2001, 261 and 263 models were available for 2003 w/ 29 or 32 splines as well...check HERE to see if the info helps at all???

Russel might be able to change your computer to run a newer t case. Worth asking him

The wiring and modules in 03+ trucks are totally different and cannot be interchanged due to different communication protocols on the data buss.

I bet you can swap the encoder motor from your old case to the new one though.

As far as I know 261 is floor shift only...the link wont load right now... I try in the morning. My comp is slow at night. Thanks Dave!

Got the newer case today finally... the encoder motor bolted right on!

I looked all over for a answer but couldn't find anyone that knew for sure.
And by looking and googling and posting questions on the Diesel Place I wasn't the only one with the same problem.
