Just throwing this out there before I have to make the bottom section of the b pillar. I've done a pretty good search and come up empty. I called motor city k5 and he said I would have to make it. Figured I would ask here in case I missed something

Also I have found that later K5s use thicker sheet metal for the lower b pillar then then 70s K5s. I found a rust free 90s K5 from in the junk yard and sawzall off the lower B pilar just for that part.
Also nice plug welds. I practiced and still had difficulty with making clean plug welds.
Also these lower B pillars are not cheap if compared to the 69-72.
Okay yeah you have to make that part. I wasn't sure exactly which part of your trying to replace but it makes sense now.
Thanks, don't know why they make it for the first gens but not the squares. The junkyards around here have only late model stuff. I have no problem making the part- might take a few tries,haha. Appreciate the positive comments on the welds. I've come a long way. Before I started this, I could barely stick weld broken farm equipment
Yeah I'll make a template once I get the rear quarter out of the way
I tried making my own lower B pillar with mixed results. The metal on the late 90s lower B pillar is thicker then the body panel so it is not easy to form. If you do not get the curve correct it will not align to the rocker and rear quarter. One would need a jig and a press to make the part correctly IMHO.
Rather then bending the curved 90 degree maybe it might be easier to cut the curve in the sheet metal and then weld a strip at a 90 degree.

Had to rebuild that part myself on my project. 1976K5. Notice the shinny bottom on the support. I also had to rebuild the thicker plate that the piece is welded to and the seat belt is bolted to.

Whoa, yeah. I thought mine was jacked up. That helps, thanks! Looks like you had to reconstruct most of the b pillar as well as the rocker assembly. I didn't know that part was in the 76- bodies. Thanks for posting that

The seat belt support piece is thick. Right at about .098". The curvature under the floor pan is a natural mud catcher and is responsible for starting a lot of rusting. Has anyone sealed this somehow? If not, I will be wise and get after that spot with the garden hose when washing the vehicle.
The 78+ K5s were redesigned in that area and have a different seat belt mount.
