Anybody know what the name of the factory spare was on \'85 K5\'s (GMC)

I have the spare in the back of my '85 and was wondering if it was the original spare because I havent had that kind of tire on It and It didnt have that kind of tire on it when I bought it. I will have to go back outside and see what its called later. Anyway anyone know what the name of the original spares were?

"UNIROYAL TIGER PAW" Is what it says it white lettering on the side.

I can tell you for certain that the Tiger Paw is the original tire. I bought a new K5 back in '85 and that is what it came with. They are among the worst tires in the world, especially for a 4x4. I couldn't turn a corner without them squeeling like I was spinning out. Wish I still had that truck, it was a good one!

my '87 has the original spare and it is a 31x10.5x15 Uniroyal Laredo S/T

I have my original, unused '77 K10 spare . its sitting the shed, and still holds air pressure

My S-Jimmy came from the factory with some Uniroyal Laredos. Sorriest tires I've ever driven on. As soon as a drop of water hit the road, they were extremely squirrely! I swapped 'em out just past the half worn point, because I didn't trust driving on them any more. /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif

My 84 has the factory spare and it's a Tiger Paw too. If your is like mine it the shortest friggin' 31" tire I've ever seen.../forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Mine was a Uniroyal Tiger paw as well except mine had 12 plugs in it......

I'm pretty sure they did it the same way back then, but right now the OEM's just use whatever is cheapest at the moment. If Firestone gives them a deal on 10,000 ATX's, they get that, General on 8,000 Grabber ST's, they go with them, etc. Only time it is different is if it's a model that is supposed to have a certain tire, like the ZR2 S10's and Ranger FX/4's with BFG AT's.

Basically, it could be the spare, probably is. Just there probably wasn't 1 particular brand of tire used for spares.

My burb(87), my dads burb (89), and my friend Jimmy (89) all came with a 235/75r15 Goodyear ATS.

Mine is some kind of Uniroyal. 235/75/15. But that's a 29" tire, not a 31. I have heard a lot about 31's being stock, but I have never seen it.

MY Jimmy came with 31s stock, along with a 31" spare. I had the outside tire carier though.
