So I picked up this 97 blazer, and have put about 5k miles on it. I have decided to keep it, but it NEEDS more clearance for what I use it for. My thoughts are trying to fit 31s with very little lift. Will this drivetrain/steering stuff survive 31s and moderate use. I plan on re gearing from the 3.42s to probably 410.

Solid axle swap isn't totally out of the question, but haven't seen one that was as low as I would like.

Sas is and don't look back. This is roughly a 5in lift with 37s. Not exactly low but pretty low. Smallest you could probably do is 33s exactly. And it would take some careful packaging

ZR2s are also 2" taller than a stock S-10. But a 31 will fit on stock wheels, might rub lil bit turning.

I was thinking 3" but point being that the drivetrain can handle 31's with a small lift like he was asking. Hell if I'm not mistaken they have a bigger 10 bolt rear axle than came stock in our trucks.

Stockers have the 7 5/8", the ZR2 has the 8.5 10 bolt, and not sure rhyme or reason but it was optional to get the 8.5. My sister had a 2wd blazer that had one, 4.3 with a 5-speed.

You sir are correct. The 10 bolt under my 03(4.3, NV3500) was the 8.625" axle. I guess they changed that in 2000.

Hijack off...

When I was 16 I had an 85 S10 with a 3" body lift and 31s. It ate ball joints... but I wheeled it like a 16 year old too

That bigger 8.5 10 bolt, are they difficult to find? I really would like to have a locker in this thing, but would rather not put one in a 7.5

Easy as finding ZR2 or stick 4.3 truck. Pretty easy to tell by looking at them...

If you get one out of a ZR2 it might cause you more work because they all came with the G80 gov-lok, which means finding an open carrier for a locker.
