Anybody own an M35a?

I know it’s different with state laws, but the requirements for a Commercial driver’s license federally are that you have to be using it for commerce before a CDL is needed. In other words if you aren’t using it to make money, then you don’t need one. But, like I said.. state law can be more stringent.
That's true here in Cali, but you'd still have to have a class B license to drive it here, even if it's a non-commercial B.:doah: Personally, I'd really like to get rid of my class B cdl, since it changes all the rules in CA for DUI, traffic school eligibility, violation points, etc. Most of it was only supposed to be changed if you're actually operating a commercial vehicle, but good luck getting a cop or judge to understand that, or give a sh!t.

Fully understand and read up on these.

The deuce guys on www.SteelSoldiers.com can tell you everything you ever needed to know.
Also consider that this isn't something you can "just use the 1/2" drive socket set" for. Everything is bigger and often a lot different than light duty trucks.
Hell, even changing the wheels and tires is difficult. Lately even going to super singles is hard just due to the tires being hard to find with the war and all.

If you are going to do it look for one of the AF trucks with the longer beds. I wanna say 15' instead of 12'? www.IdahoMotorPool.com had a bunch a while back.

Random thought...but can they carry enough weight for a fullsize, lifted, locked, and loaded GM 4x4?
Also...plan on going under any bridges?

Not saying they aren't cool or surprisingly useful...they're just big...and totally beyond what a lot of people expect. Just talked a coworker out of buying one a few weeks ago. Guy doesn't even change his own oil and he was raring to go spend $4k on one up here locally. Make sure you can support one before you get one. Talk to some actual owners and be aware of their requirements and issues.

here is a bobbed duece i scaned the thread but gets you around the dl thing 2 axle not 3.

Yep, that's something I've wanted to do for about 20 years now. I always thought it would be cool to knock one down to 2 axles like that, and they seem to do a nice job on them.
I still dig these rigs, and I wasn't concerned with the bigness of all the parts. It's smaller than a lot of the crap I work on normally, so I never really figured it'd be a problem.:D Maybe I can drop some hints to the wife for Xmas.:haha:
