Anybody running one of these?

the XJ shaft won't work my 68 column. but fits the 2wd box I have on mine for crossover. I'm trying to find a 4 spd column to swap into mine to clean up the 3 spd mess off the column. However I think by 72 the columns changed but the xj joint is made for the 78 and newer splines.

what exactly is the dampening unit it comes with? maybe I have a borgeson shaft, and flaming river joints. If it's a big coil spring wrapped around the shaft then it's not worth it. think about it, any movement your steering shaft is going to experience would be from frame to body flex. nothing is going to stop that or lessen the way that feels through the steering wheel.

I'm not sure if its worth it or not, but i was told on another baord its the way to go.

This is what i'm talking about:

i could see if it was a ralley car or a street rod but with the lift and tires you'll get steering vibes anyways, FWIW

yeah, but what does that do? I will take pictures tomorrow of my setup if you want. Hell I'll send you the shafts if its any help. like I said my friend has a pile of them. he buys scratch and dent lots.

Friend of mine just found a '92 CTD that was rolled and another friend used to have one of those trucks FS.

After paying bills lastnight i realised i can't even afford the grease for the borgeson shaft so i raced over to the local yard at lunchtime and snagged one of these out of a cherokee. i cant remember the year but it looked to be the closest. I paid $5.50 for the shaft, $2 to get in, and $3 for a 13mm wrench. So i'm now into it for $10.50 + $80 for gas;)

Anyway, i think this is gonna be an ez conversion. Yes it will have to be modified but working in a huge job shop it wont be a big deal. We'll just have to wait and see. But so far so good. Thanks for all the help and ideas guys.

modified?
not really
just get it hot with a torch(not read hot) just hot enough to melt the plastic rings inside, or drill out the pins, whichever it has, and pull the shaft apart, remove all the plastic stuff, clean it up, grease it and install it.

the steering column side will be tight, and hard to get back off, so i just left it on, and ran a drill bit that fit in the holes (cant remember the size) to make the notch for the bolt on the column side
took about 15min from start to finish to install it
