LOL!!

Yeah, I have access to quite a few of them!!

I'm gonna have them made so they look like the ORU kit spacers. I still plan to do a write up comparision with other kits.

I just don't want to pay $700 for a kit from ORU!

I had a buddy that made some real clean looking ones that used the stock 3/4 front backing plates. He was working as a machinist at the time and did it on his lunch over a couple days.

Actually, those spacers are for sale. The only problem is that you have to buy the whole truck to get them. '93 K1500 LB, 60/14 bolt, 5.13s, 38.5 SXs, TH400, 205, etc. Real nice clean truck, but you may be better off making the spacers yourself.

Hey Wes --

FINALLY got the plans from my buddy. Here are the details I think you were waiting for (if you haven't already moved forward with this project

).

Inner diameter of backside (against housing): 3.820"
Depth of backside inner diameter: 0.570"
Inner diameter of frontside (against caliper mounting plate): 3.515"
Outside diameter: 5.420"
Overall thickness: 1.271"

All dimensions are approximate (just measured with calipers). Also, as mentioned in a previous post, there is a bevel/chamfer on the frontside OD to accomodate the curvature of the backing plate.

Hope all this helps. I'd be interested in knowing how this turns out for you. And of course, if you start selling them for profit, I'll expect a percentage for R&D services. J/K

Robb, thanks very much for the specs!!

Now I need to find someone to make them. Any offers anybody?

I don't know about you or me making any profit off of these since I have no access to a machine shop. I only need a pair for my own axles.

Good idea on a percentage of R&D, though!!

Here is a dumb question. I know where a wrecked 93 K1500 LB, 60/14 bolt is located. Will the rear disc brakes just bolt onto the 14bolts we use on our K5's????? I figure the calipers have Ebrake fittings and the backing plate and spacer are all made to GM specs? If anyone has done this conversion or knows it will work, I'll get back to the salvage yard and start removing parts!

Well, the first part of that makes sense. Not quite sure about the rest, though.

That's interesting because I am using front 1/2ton backing plates to make disc brakes on a 14B SF using front 1/2ton calipers and my spacer has turned out to be 1.25" also.

(This is the narrower axle. ONe of the 6-lug SF 14's had a track width about the same as the front, but this is a regular width one.)

Just thinking out loud...
When you go to disc could you put the disc on the outside of the hub and gain a extra inch or so of rear width?
Of course you would have to have a larger spacer. Would there be problems with caliper clearance?
