I'm scrapping the whole pack rat toolbox idea, was supposed to make one out of wood. Too hot and no time. I'll eventually find some places to bolt down those ammo cans somewhere out of the way of rear seat and sleeping space then be done with it.

Moving on to next idea: rock lights.

Last night, I saw a Blazer climb Lake Hill without lockers, took him 20 tries before succeeding. He had the coolest LED lights under the frame so I walked over for a closer look. I tried to flag him down as he descended down Lake Hill, looks like he ignored me and sped off away from the cove. Bummer.... I was gonna ask him what brand are those lights :(

I hope he wasn't one of us...

Anyways, if some of you guys are running rock lights under your frame, I'd like to see pics of where and how they're mounted. Also what brands are you using? I'm thinking of using LEDs but they're not many of those on the market.
I don't want to end up having a set of crappy ones from Walmart for $16. I did a search, both on google and CK5.. the results are too broad; I'd thought I could narrow it down by starting a thread.

I have some 55watt rubberized 12v work lights under the back of mine. When/If I do a roof rack, I plan to have perimeter lighting, Ive got 2 sets of Off road lights up front.

I've seen those on a Jeep. What brand are those? I'm looking for low wattage and less amp draw, LEDs are perfect but can't find a vendor who sells them for this purpose.

Man just hang some kids out the windows with flashlights :wink1: J/K , seeing as how your getting serious about AZ rocks , just get some cheapos at Harbor freight , easier to replace that way :thumb:

Thanks, guys! I am liking the roundeyes... might get 'em if I come up with the dough, otherwise I'll throw on some cheapo Walmart or HF lights.

I have six tractor utility lights I got for $10 or so. I have one in each wheel well, one out back and one for the undercarage. I love them for night rockcrawling they bring day into the night. I wanted cheep ones so that when they get banged up or broke they arent cheep to replace. I just mounted them using the bolts they come with, whitch also is the ground. They are a one wire and way easy install.

I have 6 tractor lights and 6 leds on separate circuits... the tractor lights put out much better light and are way cheaper... the leds do ok, but I mainly used them for places that the others would not fit. I got the super bright Leds by doing a group buy with some buddys, they were still pretty spendy. These were the leds that I have...

also a note on placement, I have one tractor light front and center mounted on the engine crossmember pointing slightly forward. one mounted on the passanger side frame aimed back at my rear driveshaft and rear diff, one in each wheel well the fronts pointed forward and the rears pointed rearward. The leds are tucked up under the body on either side and in the rear. I also have two mounted in the cab for interior lights and to see in my toolbox. I also suggest mounting one above the winch so that you can use low ampreage light to help in using the winch in the pitch black.

Great idea . Thanks Gabe :waytogo:

I use 4 of the $10 rubber armor tractor lights like pictured above. I got them at Napa. They work very well. They do draw some decent power but nothing a relay can't handle. I really like them because they work well and are cheap.

I busted 2 in the last year that I need to replace so $20 and I am set. :D It wasn't really the fault of the lights though. One popped out of the case and I was to lazy to put it back in and seal it up and the other had a very close encounter with a busted front main leaf of my leaf spring. The leaf spring snapped and one end of the snapped leaf went right threw the lense. :doah:

In that case, I better get some spare main leafs :eek1:

I just mounted 4 of my lights last night. I'm not going to wire them up until I have my dual battery setup in though. I already had the 4 on my front bumper and the 2 on my back bumper mounted when I had the bumpers put on. I'm going to go back to HF and pick up some more of those rubber housing tractor work lights like I have on the rear bumper and place strategically on the frame. Not for rocks though, really for just riding trails at night. Comes in very handy especially when riding in unfamiliar territory.

Copasetic, what you're doing with your lights is cool but putting them in place of bumpstops scares me a bit. Not bashin' ya but I hope nothing happens to them when you happen upon an articulating situation. I've been reading your build and I like your truck; keep up the good work :waytogo:

Thanks Brian! The lights that are were the bumpstops were are just a trial run. Before I take it anywhere I'm going to test flex it to make sure they will be fine. With those stiff 12" springs in the front, I highly doubt they'll come close to touching, but we'll see.
