Anybody use the Harbor Freight "Farm Jack"?

Thanks for checking it out, Randy. :waytogo:

I think if I buy a 48" jack, it's going to be from Tractor Supply. Ten bucks cheaper and made in the USA.

I'm going to borrow a buddy's jack this weekend and then see if I can find a 60" for less than $70. Even the ones on eBay cost that much, when you figure in shipping.

Well, I bought two and jacked up the rear of a 48' semi trailer to remove the complete axle assy with the harbor freight farm jacks. No problems. If you don't keep a good film of greese on them the levers stick a bit but other than that they are fine.

I looked at it today. Made better than I imagined. Its a pretty smooth operation. One thing, it did not automatically drop down when in reverse mode and no weight on the tongue like the Hi-Lift does.
Mine drops down with no weight on it. If the one youwas looking at was new then it just needs to be used a bit and it will drop.

time to make you jealous

I just picked up my new Hi-lift. got it off Ebay, but the seller was Quadratec which is almost within sight of where I work. 60" all cast.:waytogo:

they sold it as scratch and dent. it has never even been unwrapped. some dumb jeep owner returned it because the end of the handle was rubbing the paint off the post.

it's going to get used so who cares if the paint isn't perfect.

Yeah, you can get them all day on eBay for $50 but then they charge you over $20 for shipping and you're right back where you started.

Cool that you could get it from a place close to you, though. Maybe I'll keep an eye out for a deal like that.

I just got a brand new 60 inch hi lift(the 604) for $65 at my local driveshaft shop.

It's black with a red handle, I don't know if it's the all cast version on not, but for $65 I said sure.

Since we are on the subject what is the difference between the two styles of Hi Lift jack all Cast vs Cast/Steel? Patronize me as I am a newb on these. I mean why choose one over the other?

Heck 27 years ago when we used to get stuck or needed a lift we just grabbed a wheeled end loader and pulled her or lifted it.

The best price I found on an all cast 60" is $59 and about $20 shipping at http://www.offroadtoystore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=Hi-Lift

From Hi-Lift's web site:
Q:What is the difference between the All-Cast (red) Jack and the Cast & Steel (Black) Jack?
A:The All-Cast Jack is made of all cast parts, while the Cast & Steel Jack has cast parts, along with 4 stamped steel parts.
Q:Which Jack is stronger or better?
A:Both Jacks have the same features and weight capacities ANSI/ASME 4660 lbs. (7000 lbs.). The all-cast jack will last longer when frequently used, but both jacks are very durable.

Well from comparing prices and only being like $7.00 difference I guess I will go all cast. Goldwing2000 the link above is best I could find after an hour of checking. Some on ePray but as you said add shipping and it is to close so I guess just buy from a regular company.

Yep. It's hard to find good deals on eBay on new stuff.
I'm still looking for a local place that carries them but I'm really thinking about going with the $27 48" farm jack from Tractor Supply.
For 33% of the price, if I need another 12" of length, I'll just carry around a block of wood. :D

I don't really need one but thought for my western walk about, wanka tanka, swan song trip it would be good to have one just in case I need it out on Black Bear road or Cinnamon Pass.

what happens when you need an extra 13"? :D I have run my 60" all the way to the top before. you will find a situation where the only good place to put the base is below grade.

also an extra 12" of winching or clamping is not gonna be solved by a block of wood. 60"s is pimp.

*shrug* When it comes right down to it, I'm just a cheap (and broke) bastard. I can handle $27 a lot easier than $75. :dunno:

And since I've never had one and never really needed one (yet), even a 48" is better than nothing.

ive got it...only problem is on payment the base is unstable...and it kinda bends a bit. other than that its pretty good.

When you say the base is unstable, it's supposed to be, I have the 60" HI LIFT and the base is articulated so it conforms to the surface it's on.
I can not get mine to stand on it's own.
