i have used rotella t 15w40 as well as delo in my old gas engines and i have to look in to it but they were some of the last high zinc compounds available.but overall good oil.
my local wally world has it on sale $12 a gal. if its good for gas engines(i guess its ok since its being used in a flogged dirt track engine above), i think i'm going to get several cases of it to keep on hand.
I used to run the stuff all the time. I don't know if it was the "LE" version, but I ran it in my Jeep Wagoneer, and I run it in my VW hot-rod Bug. I may move to it on my Suburban as well; in every case, I had higher oil pressure at idle, and no engine ever complained about it.
And yes, it was because of the added Zinc. Good for flat tappet engines! I hear you can run break in stuff as well. ZDDP? I forget right now, but I heard some people throw some of that in there at every oil change. I sure don't want to suffer from flat-cam-lobe syndrome
aren't the new diesel oils supposed to be good, like having some of the additives most gas engines aren't supposed to get? I dunno, some BS like that, having to do with emissions of GAS/ Diesel.
Anyone know what I'm talking about? lol
Anyone with a good recommendation?
All my mechanical life, I've used Valvoline maxlife 20-50 or 10-40. Also Kendal synthetic
passing emissions isn't a problem here as there are no inspections, but if there are any emissions b/c of that oil that would mess up any sensors on a 96 sbc. now, that would matter to me
I run Delo and Rotella in both my old Chevy's because I've always got a couple cases here in the shop for our diesels. No problems to speak, they leak/smoke less, and I get a little better oil pressure.
Short on time, I had a local shop change the oil and rotate tires on the Jimmy last summer. I forgot to tell them to put 15w-40 in it and they put plain ol 10w-30. Truck's leaky valve seals smoked twice as bad.
