I cant stand the power windows in my 78. I was interested what all would be involved in converting them to manual (besides buying the parts). Can anyone who has done this let me know what the process is, and how easy/hard it is.
thanks.

need the window regulator for manual and the crank. then put new hole in panel and its done. just a bit harded than changing glass.

whats the break in door years? 80 to 91? i'd love to go manual in my 87.. i'm betting 90% of em where power...

yes, it bolts right in quick and easy...

its a lot harder going the other way though, wiring to run and all...
so i WOULDNT pull the wires unless you are really sure you dont want power ever again.

actually, i think the window crank goes though the same location as the power window switch, so you dont even have to cut a hole

Just get dors from an old truck. There are interchangeable I think. 73-88 pickups all had the same doors.

It is so easy to go manual from power you will laugh
There is no need to change doors , pull the power reg. out drop the harness , bolt in the man. crank , put a big plastic washer over the pw. switch hole and you are good to go (or replace the door panel if you have one)
There is nothing hard about it but to get the pw. reg. set up out of the door , it's a pain but can be done , I did it on an 85 1/2 ton

I converted my '90 from power to manual by simply removing the power window motor/regulator assembly and installing a manual window regulator. All the holes are in the door, but I don't know about the trim panel because I don't run them.

I did this on my blazer it's an 87 i used regulators from a 79. Everything lined up, the crank came through the window switch hole. It took me about an hour to remove/install everything. very easy swap

they work..

KISS

sheesh, this thread is ancient.. i did my K5 ones like right after this thread, like 6, 7 yrs ago..... keeping the power ones in Mutt tho.. but ditching the power locks.. those i hate ALL the time...

So can power windows. :dunno:

I prefer power windows but manuals are fine. When the time comes I would like to swap to powered.

GM power windows in the square bodies are FAAAAR more prone to issues, than the manuals are..

you can throw in, no wires into the door too...

Power windiws need wires and motors and switches to work. Any one of those go bad and window no go down/up. My arm normally is in perfect working order and my windows go up and down every time I try them, even if theres no key in the ignition!
