My K5 is getting real crispy around the edges (aka: rusty). When driving down the road I can actually feel the seat getting lower from the floor flexing and ripping. When I shut the drivers door, the whole side of the truck moves. I've been thinking about doing the trazer thing and swaping a pickup cab onto the k5 frame. Finding a decent Blazer tub is next to impossible. Most of the 73-87 pickups are either, rusted past the point of me wanting to deal with it or way out of my price range for a decent one (rember I'm in the rust belt). The rusty ones usually need floors, rockers, cab corners. For that much work I'll just fix my tub. Plus I like having the extra space in the truck.

I plan on swapping a 91 (92?) extended cab/front clip onto my frame. A friend of mine has one he got into an accident with (see pic). The cab corners are rusted, but that's really not a big issue. When doing some measuring, the cab will need to be notched to clear the frame....I'll just raise the floor in the rear and get rid of the rusty corners at the same time. The truck was a 4.3/5 speed so it already has the needed clutch stuff.

Does anyone know if this has been done by anyone on here before? I know I'll need to fab some new body mount brackets and a few other things. Once I get around to working on it I'll start a build thread.

The donor truck (I won't be using this front end). No one was hurt in the accident. He was going down the road when a famer plowing out the oil rig in his field backed up into the road without looking. Zach tried slowing down but was too close and the road was too slipery.

The frame rails are MUCH further apart on the newer trucks. I think that would make it a PIA to get mounted safely.

I know that they are further appart. I figure with the propper body mounts on the frame, it shouldn't be much of a problem. I mean the cab doesn't actually sit on the frame. If I had to I could even add in an extra mount on each side. Once I get the truck to my house I'll measure and do some comparing of the frames.

I know I have seen this done. Whether it was here or on pirate I'm not sure. I would search around on pirate though

I looked around pirate for awhile. Got tired of seeing all the posts turning into giant b!tchfests. I found a few with an 88+ regular cab but not an extended.

Looks like I'm going a differn't direction now. Came accross an 81 cab for free, so I'll do the normal trazer thing now.
