just wondering if anyones done this, right now i have a 350/700r4/241 set up, and i thinks its gettin tired, so how hard would it be to find 6.2/465/?? set up and how hard would the swap be?anything have to be done to the computer ? would the 241 bolt up behind the 465? is it true that with the 465 behind a 6.2 the clutch isn`t needed to shift?

Uh, I'd say that a clutch is always needed with a manual tranny, unless you like starting in gear and are a power shifting expert. If you go this route, I'd say get EVERYTHING together in one piece. The flywheel has been difficult for a buddy of mine to find, it'd be better if you got the complete package so you don't have to search for the little things. And I don't think the 241 ever came behind the 465. Just 203', 205's, and 208's IIRC. Don't know if you can adapt a 241 to fit.

You might find it cheaper in the long run to track down a good deal on a Blazer that already has a SM465 in it (and D60/14FF axles, crossover steering, an NP205 TC, and an unrusty body).

It might seem cheaper to do the stuff one thing at a time, but it's actually cheaper to let somebody alse do it all and then buy it from them. Consider putting the projects on hold, ratholing all your spare cash, and then buying an already-modified truck (click here for an example).

No offence, but I think a swap like that might be a little over your head. I should give you a ride in my truck some time with my SM465. You should drive it too to get a feel for it. Personally I love it! I could never go to an auto. My boss's 89 Chevy van has a 305/700r4 combo and it sucks, not to mention its a dog, if you put the pedal to the floor the trans shifts way too soon, the engine never sees above what feels like 3000rpm . With my 465 I have total control over whne to shift so my engine can readily see about 5000rpm (that's where I like to shift when I got the pedal to the medal :D) I accidantly pegged the engine out to 6500rpm :eek1: now my red line is about 5250rpm, that was a result of full throttle/doing donuts in the snow and ice.

Now to get back on track, if you have the means, time, tools, $$, not to mention patients, then I really supremely recomend doing it. You won't regret it.

Well if he's a doctor, and he has the patients, then he should have the money. Otherwise, he'll need time and patience.

hmmm, i`m thinkin its not gonna be such a good idea

how many of you have a manual 700r4?and also if it came to the point where the motor swap had to happen, what should go in?

yes, they are out there.
my '90 suburban had an sm465 mated to an np241

That's good to know, I thought they stopped with the 208. Do you know if it was only for one year or something? Never really hear about those combos.

Well that stuff is WAY too new for me and the group I hang out with. I wouldn't know anything about a vehicle that isn't older than I am.
