Anyone else take their top off yet?

I have a softtopper and love it:waytogo: If I remember correctly the only drilling I did was maybe 4 or 5 screws into the windshield frame. The snaps on the side bolted to the same holes as the hardtop. I wonder if you could modify the windshield snap rail to clamp on some how or bolt to the hardtop brackets with some reinforcing/modifying to eliminate drilling?

It could be done, would req some time and work. The 3 attach points are not strong enough, would. Have to tie into the roll bar to prevent flex.

Thought about using the very front section of an extra factory top which I have but might use it to make a partial top to serve as a bikini for the summer.

That's an idea just cut the very front part of a factory top and attach your canvas to it so the front bolts on just like the hard top. This is what your thinking right?

Or have some one make a fiberglass edge that is a copy of the toppers. Now if only we had a member or some one who was a master at making molds and working with fiberglass.

Wouldn't be hard to do, just a matter of time, trial and error. Motivation is a factor also.

I like the idea of molding a new piece like the first foot of the hard top...not sure how you attach the canvas to it...

The same way they do on boats! With the snaps or the cord thing in a grove. If Chuck (my mechanic friend) was still alive he would know how.

My top stays off...sort of. Or should I say I never take it off?

It's either buttoned up or sides rolled up. I never take it all the way down. Just no point from where I sit. Get it? It's rare to ride anyone in the back seat and I still have a top over me no matter what. The sun is hot and it stays nice and cool in canopy mode. No wild wind either...just right!

You could do that with a full vert...cut the hard top just behind the first bolt on the bed rail...it would be like a removable Gen3 top....but would it fit in the bed??? :dunno::dunno::dunno:

The tan color looks great on your rig.

That's one of my dilemmas, tan or black when I do buy one.

It was a no-brainer for me. I had the top envisioned before I bought it. I was aware of the Jimmy in my area since it was new. I saw the old guy with the hood up of his new truck and stopped to help. I realized he was the guy with the tan Jimmy, asked about it,and he told me it was sitting but he's sell it if I was interested. The hard top matched body color,so it's tan on tan on tan. But I think I'd put tan on any rugged style K5 and black on some if they were more custom/shiny looking. There are other colors available, too, and I'd use those on certain more custom looking ones, depending on the vibe I was after

Remember the member who had the palm tree on his door? Desert Rat patrol look.

I like that soft top look. If I had a blazer. That is exactly what is do to it, full time soft top

Normally mine would be off around this time, just depends on what the current years March-April weather decides to be.

The Blazer is sitting, with tools and parts inside, so until I finish my piddling around, it'll be staying on for a while this year. Finally about finished with the parts truck, so now my attention will be focused on the Blazer.

I think this is the year I make a holder for the top. Bunch of downed trees from the ice storm, so I'ma make some posts and rails from those, a drive-thru set up that holds it at bed rail height.

Mine will be off as soon as I get it back from the carb shop. My new house has a carport so I'll be able to back it in to be protected on the rainy days. This is my first full vert that doesn't have the cab supports and rocker boxes totally rotted out, so I'll actually be able to open and shut the doors when I remove the top.
