I just painted all the trim from white (dingy and stained) to a dark BLue. NOw I want to replace the headliner with blue material, I could buy one from LMC< but thought about redoing it myself. Not sure how good it would turn out though. lol

My buddy who does upholstery on the side redid mine for me. It came out perfect and still looks like new and hasn't sagged yet. He did it about 5 years ago.

IIRC it's just cardboard with a vinyl cover stretched over it and glued in place -- or in the case of my '77, NOT glued there :haha: I took it down with the intent of fixing it, but never got around to it 'fore I sold the truck.

Seems to me that if you got some think vinyl or purpose-made headliner material, it would be easy enough to cut it to match the cardboard, glue it on with that 3M spray adhesive, and reinstall. Or if you're that worried about it, find a pro like Scott did :D

What did you guys use to make the bowtie?

Thanks,
Mike

i used my cardboard backer, cleaned it up...then bought a confederate flag, centered it on the backing board...folded 1/2 one way, spray adhesive on board and back of flag, folded that 1/2 back onto cardboard keeping wrinkles out, then folded the other 1/2 over to spray backer and flag, laid it back over ..takin care for no wrinkles...folded flag over the edges of backer, then reinstalled....its been little over 4 yrs ago and still stuck good w/o any wrinkles or sags

(i followed adhesive directions...spayed both parts, stuck them together then pulled it back apart, resprayed adhesive...allowed it to get tacky then restuck the material....thats why i did 1/2 at a time, not sure why they tell you to stick it then pull it back apart and let get tacky, then reapply material, but its stuck for good, i believe,..i hope)....

that reb flag headliner gets more comments than anything else on the truck, besides the truck as a whole!

I like this alot alll i have is metal..... im so glad your build thread is ONLY 59 pages long i wonder if i can find this in there lol!

:haha:

Actually if you change your options to "25 posts per page" or whatever it is, it's only like 20 pages... :doah::wink1:

very simple project... just make sure you use the spray adhesive correctly and coat both surfaces as Blazin mentioned...

I'm actually gonna be ditching it once I do a cage.. I have a VERY ambitious design for a fiberglass overhead console when I get around to that...

Jo-Ann fabrics, and probably most other local fabric stores, carries headliner material in several colors. It's inexpensive, durable and looks good. You just need an orange can of "heavy duty headliner adhesive" to hold it up. You could try gluing it to the steel, but it might be safer to just pick up the cardboard insert at a local junkyard.

My cardboard is in good shape. on a scale of 1 - 10, 10being the best, mine is an 8. Ill either just take it somewhere to get redone or try and find a jo-ann fab shop. Nothings open today. I did go to HomeDepot, they didnt have any kind of material to use and Walmart here doesnt do fabrics anymore.

I bought a roll of cheap-o carpet from autozone or whatever for like 10 bucks, glued it down to my cardboard and it's holding up nicely. I was worried it would be to heavy and eventually sag, but I installed my overhead console so no more worries.

Hey 86haubs,

Whats the rest of your truck look like? I see some racing seats and custom gauges in the gauge panel. Do you have a build thread? Got more pics in/out? Thanks

no build thread, actually almost done with it. I wish I woulda started one, really no use now. Just finishing up some diamond plate and othe BS. I will be happy to take any pics you want. I guess I could make some albums under my profile. Let me know what you want.

Just what all was done,

1) shots of the seats and brackets

2) over all shot of the interior

3) shot of the gauges and any other trick things

4) shot of the outside

I always like to see custom and outside the box thinking pics. always looking for ideas, etc. :D
