anyone ever enter four wheelers top truck challenge

No running tow rig and no trailer right now, plus I got the warns for 50 bucks. Drive flanges are definately in the future but having to drive the truck everywhere it goes, means the hubs stay on I am too lazy to pull slugs everytime I go somewhere.

I will come clean though the main reason I am entering is well to get free stuff or heavily discounted stuff. Its not a big secret that alot of companys will sponser you at this event. I have about a snowballs chance in hell of getting picked my truck isn't unusual or weird and it certainly has pretty boring compononts.

Plus its fun to go

Sorry I don't agree with this logic.

This is called top truck challenge..

So taking advantage of something IF and thats a big if I get picked is a bad thing.

Don't get me wrong if I get picked I will drive the truck very hard. I am aware of its limits and its capabilities and firmly believe I can compete for the top 3. If I get in (a huge if) the spotter I am taking drives a truck very similar to mine so he knows what it can and can't do.

My truck is certainly not the norm you see in TTC other than I have big tires very low to the ground very low dollar and a mostly (other than the doubler) stock drivetrain.

I do think it will be a very competitive truck if I make it to the challenge because most poeple will discount it because it does not have alot of fancy stuff on it. Finish every event, place well in all, keep it together, that will be my plan

Fairly simple rig that won :D He had nothing fancy like most rigs and they doubted him early on. Big block doubler locked 60/14 beadlocked 44's. From what I know having watched all the videos its all about being consistently good and not breaking to be in the top 3.

doubler, beadlocks, full cage, snorkle and plenty of seat time on that set up..

Not to mention it is not the same competition it was when Toby ran.

Not trying to bash his rig, I have a full buggy and I feel it is no where near enough to be realistically competitive. I do feel if he by some chance made it it would taking the place of a rig more capable.

Oh I agree 100% on that. Noaddays 44's are the smallest tires and leaf springs are only found under the trailers :p:

I am not sure of the OP's drivetrain, but I think a cage of some kind is required for TTC right which he said is in work? He also said he will be running H1's.

I think he could compete depending on the other entrants.

IIRC Toby's blown hub during the tank trap was the extent of his breakage which is still consistent with whoever wins. Little to no breakage.

I agree with Supersize that it is going to be a stiff competition even if there are only 10 entrys. But hell why not. I would not drive down here in the rig your going to wheel, i would trailer it becuase in all honesty you might destroy it. I have wheeled hollister hills countless times. Some things you HAVE to have to make it are
1. Beadlocks- you wont get through 1 trail without it
2. lockers front and rear no exception
3. a good winch. i think its actually a requirement to be accepted
4. atleast 44" tires the bigger the better

but if anyone else wants to enter i will be more than happy to be your spotter or just help out

56" springs on the front well kind of 2 of the orginal leaves left with a Dodge leaf and a couple of Toyota leaves and another Chevy leaf in there. Shocks are pro comps but I have some Rancho 9000 to go on it (remember I drive this rig locally to the trail) All the spring mounts are different except the shackle mount on the front which uses a DIY4x bushing kit and is braced up.

Rear is 63" leaves (stock pack) once again on custom mounts springs are inboarded about 2" on each side (compared to a half ton) Same shocks of course on custom mounts.

Frame started out as a longbox frame took 10" out of the middle of it to get the wheelbase around 121" rear of the frame is boxed. I doubt I will finish the boxing up to the front for the main reason of I am boatsided the truck, up to the stock lower door hinges so its kind of an extra frame helps a ton on stiffness of the frame. The entire cage will be tied in to the body and frame ( remember boatsiding so no body mounts)

Drivetrain is simple and dead realiable, stock 350 TBI motor (trucks an 87) turbo 350 trans, it is built up a little bit not much, 203-205 doubler, built my own crossmembers well modified a stock one built the other one soon both will be built by me so I can put a skidplate on. Built my own shifters, triple stick. Yes I can front dig if I want. The 205 is clocked up 2" from where it would normally be with a doubler. Its a jeds machine doubler.

mmm what else. tires are 44" pitbull rockers, like I said I am building a set of h1 rims for them as we speak. I wheeled it with a couple of different wheels that had different backspacing to see what I liked. Backspacing will be set at 3.5"

Body is tapered in the front dont' remember how much but quite a bit, warn winch 10000 lb variety

Steering is ORD high steer with my own hydro assist

Axles are CUCV axles, so 4.56 gears and a detriot in the rear. I do have discs in the rear. 14 b is shaved a bit so is the 60 both have DIY rings on the stock covers. Front has a detroit and 35 spline outers warn hubs, that will probably change if I get in. Drive flanges are a must.

I dont' know thats about it really I have wheeled this rig for 2 years that may not seem like alot to some but I go out every weekend in the summer and some weekdays and in the winter months at least once a month if not more. We have mostly rocks around here. Before this rig I had a blazer but it was taller and more flexy two totally different rigs.

I really dont' mind everyone being better equipped than me. A bad driver or bad spotter can make the best rig out there look stupid. I am not a bad driver and have a great spotter. One loose bolt can end your day

If I based my life off of well I am not quite ready to do that I mean ohhhh look at everyone else so much bigger and stronger and wow they have tons of cash . I would be sitting at home being a web whe...................................um wait I mean sitting at home watching tv and being lame.

Don't count me out cause I don't have 54s coilovers a jungle gym and a ton of money tied up into my motor

You guys who wheel alot know you can try an obstacle one day and spank it and then the next 5 times you try the obstacle will make you look stupid.

At this stage of the competition Shawn, what difference does it make? If they get 1000 entries, and then narrow it down from there, blazin still isn't really stopping anyone else or taking up a slot. I can guarantee that there are hundreds that enter, and only a small portion that get selected. Just because you don't think your buggy would make it, doesn't mean you couldn't enter. The experience alone would be worth it, and I don't see why you continue to badmouth someone just because you don't think they can cut it. Get over yourself, if they only wanted people to enter who had 100k buggy's, they would send out invites instead of having an open entry.

Thanks for posting the specs and info

There are not many entrants this year, so if you do get in.. bring your A game:D

My point was more directed that I would back a rig that was built.. over one that was not. Its like the van that made it in, 1 it was ridiculous, then iirc he was a no show. To me that is a complete waste of the spot. I do agree something stupid can ruin any one of the rigs run at it, but I don't feel its the same event it was just a few years ago.

Im all for him or anyone making it in, I just want to know when I buy the dvd, 10 people truly showed up and were ready, both driver and rig 100 percent. Thats what I want to watch. I too would love to one day go, but that day and that rig for me, is not here yet for me.

And as of two days ago stover had just ten entrants.. so the his chances are not that bad compared to years prior.

I dunno, maybe my thought process is too tied up on the winning side of it rather than the experience of it.

Shawn i really think you should enter this year or soon after. You got the tow rig, you got the trailer(s) you got 2 competitive vehicles and it seems like you got the $. I will vote for both of you fockers.

I sat in my kitchen and argued against this already tonight.

no winch up front or rear, no cage, sliders etc. Not to say I could not do these things in preparation for the event but I think the tank trap would murder the truck.

As for the buggy.. I have no seat time in it other than hot laps around the neighborhood alleyways every day to blow off steam:rotfl: Ill be wheeling it soon enough here though.

Next year... however..

yea ur trucks to nice for the tank trap. you seem like a guy that would go to win, not just to play anyhow.

I wasn't trying to attack you Shawn, just the way I read it came across maybe differently than you intended it. I can see your point though, and I do believe that if blazin got in to the final 10, you can bet he would do everything he could to win it. At least that's the impression I got when I met him, and I know I would love to see you get in there as well, although it would probably scare the spectators away.

its by no means nice.. But I feel it would be pretty much trashed afterwards.

If I did go though.. yes it would be to win and my balls would get a serious pep talk well in advance.
