Thinking of getting my K5 Painted. not sure what I want to do, It two tone white (top) and blue (bottom) I can get a semi pro flat black paint job at econo paint for 375bux.

Anyone get pics of a flat black?

what is the pro/cons of going with flat black? hotter in summer?

My Blazer, my Suburban, and my K30 are all flat black, but they are all rattled canned. Sprayed outside even. The Blazer on a dirt road.

I did a few ametuer flat black paint jobs on my K5's,I used dark grey primer, which is more black than gray..

I soon discovered it makes them nearly invisible to oncoming traffic, unless you use your headlights all the time, and it also attracts a lot more attention from the law too--that "stealth" color is evidently a favorite of theives and vandals, makes the vehicle easy to hide and difficult to identify after dark..something to think about,if your already bordeline as far as lift height and tire sizes,etc..I painted mine gloss black and one truck blue, with rollers and a brush after being pulled over several times in them..the "rat rods" painted like that here seem to get more attention than the other guys leaving the cruise nights also..

A few advantages to flat black is it'll heat up better when sun shines on it in winter, the roof melts the snow off faster...and it hides a lot of "sins" like rot and bondo work that wasn't done anally--I see a lot of vehicles around here that had sheet metal put on the bottom of the doors and rockers, fenders, and rear quarters, then sprayed with black undercoating or bedliner to hide the shoddy body work..I do it too,I'm not exactly patient when it comes to making things pretty--I tend to slap a patch on it and douse it with flat black or undercoat, then go get my sticker..I dont even like using bondo to hide the welds, screws or pop rivets, since the patches usually need replacing in a few years anyway..I swear they rust slower when left ugly and exposed,actually!..

Here is my, i guess its a semi-flat black, right out of my home made paint booth. I have done a few cars and trucks so I am not a beginner at it. Professional?? NO
I shot it with Napa farm equipment paint. $50-$70 in materials and lots of prep.

After seeing that price, you got me thinking of taking my crewcab in to get painted rather then do it myself. Econo paint, is that like a Maaco?

Most matte black cars are wrapped these days

I'm not sure of a price

How about chrome? http://fancytuning.com/2009/11/nissan-gt-r-chrome-white-and-matte-black-car-wraps/

At $2k for wrapping, I doubt that many cars are done that way... Most are simply rattle canned or sprayed in a garage at home. John Deere has a color known as blitz Blake that's real popular in the hot rod scene and has a good reputation for lasting a long time and is dirt cheap...

most of the major paint manufacturers have a satin black out..... heck, I've been spraying flattened black Imron for about 25 yrs now...

I haven't noticed any additional attention from the law in any of my three flat black vehicles.
