Why the h3ll is the rear seat so heavy? Id like to keep it but , and dont laugh, im trying to cut weight on my Blazer best I can. Hey, a pound is a pound, it adds up. I dont want to omit the seat all together, but I thought about having it stripped down and some how lightened up. Id like to see one stripped down and see what makes it so freakin heavy.

Any ideas or suggestions

i've wondered that myself. carrying around both front seats (i did it once) is easier than carrying the back seat alone. it just must have more steel in there to allow the folding and stuff.

mine sits around in my garage 99% of the time. i don't even bring it on offroad trips unless i know there will be a passenger for it. just bungee cord a few beanbag chairs back there instead.:haha:

There isn't much to strip down. The seat in my '76 Jimmy is thrashed and it's just springs and foam. The weight seems to be in the metal frame. It's pretty massive.

naw, I like the fold up option, esp with all the gear I carry. I would just like a THIN folding rear seat that fits the stock locations and mounts.

IF someone has a scrap tore up rear seat, maybe strip it down and take some pics maybe?

Why not get a newer rear seat from another truck at the junkyard?

I thought about that, but want to retain the stock mounting and what not. I know lil jap vans and trucks have some pretty thin bench seats, so I may take a gander at the local U pull it and see what I may be able to come up with. Been awhile since ive been, so Im over do. lol.

I always thought it would be fun to put some rear-facing buckets right behind the front seats in the back and get rid of the bench seat. Would have to work out some way of getting in and out though.

Yup , bingo . Best bet is a couple bare bones racing seats with no covers :D

Or a BEAN BAG CHAIR :wink1:

Somewhere...maybe here, someone said they'd put the 3rd seat from an Escalade in their K5 and it fit. If memory serves, I think he said the mounting holes were close. (If you search here and can't find it, try Carolinak5)

Unfortunatly I don't know what seat would easily swap into your truck, bit I'm pretty sure you won't be able to remove much weight from your seat. The thing was designed to hold the force from restraining 3 passengers in a crash, it has to have a fairly beefy frame.
