Was talking to the 4x4 shop I go to and he was telling me about a guy that takes an LS1 and tunes it to a point that it is a 3 wire hookup and eliminates all the emissions crap (egr, 02 sensor, etc). Says its tuned on a stand, sends video to perspective buyers and costs about $1800bux. Supposedly gets more HP/TQ by retuning it to run without egr & O2.

Wondered what it would be like to stuff in an '84 K5. :eek1:

o2 sesnor isn't an 'emissions' item persay. It's a feedback to make the engine run at top efficiency, which means top HP & torque. OEM's can and do use it to reduce emissions, true, but that is far from it's main purpose. It's main purpose is helping the engine run at peak capability across varying conditions (humidity, altitude, fuel type, temperature...etc).
Eliminating the o2 sensor is a really bad idea, without it, you're fixed to a static fuel map that can't adjust for varying conditions. It is the most critical piece to any EFI system. It tells the EFI controller if the engine is running rich or lean so the controller can make constant adjustments, in real time, to distributor timing and injector output.
Alot of people add an O2 sensor wired to a gauge in their carb vehicles just so they can tune it proper so it's not rich or lean.
