I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with a rebuilt tranny from Checkers or any of the other chains.

They quoted me $568 + exchange for a TH400.

Just to stem the tide, I've rebuilt a tranny once myself and it was very time consuming. I'm really just trying to avoid that much work again if at all possible. You know the usual stuff: work, family, school, I just don't have the free time right now.

I have a card of a guy that does this on the side $150 labor and parts can be 1-150 ish cash and carry. I will see if I can find it for ya.....

If you get one, let us know how it goes.....

Theres a Checkers just down the road from me.

It's not Recon. I called and asked, but I should have had him spell the name. It was something that started with Ak or Ac.

moneypit, let me know if you find that number.

The brand is Accurate. I have one in my Jimmy. I also used to work at kragen (same company as checkers) and this is where I bought it. So far everything is awesome except I cant get the dipstick to seat. Is there a difference in 2wd and 4wd dipsticks. Mine is a t400

Not that I'm aware of. If IIRC it takes a lot of pressure to get it to pop in, but once it does it is like nirvana. :D

Is there some easy way to do it? I have the oring on but even with it off it wont slide in all the way. It is about 1" long total with the dimple all the way around the center for the oring. Why wont it go in. Is there a process.

I had 2 from advance autoparts down here that where TH350's I don't have major complants. I was hard on them and the both took a dump but that was just my use and my rig.

Seems like I just had to twist and wiggle it around until it finally slipped in. And that was difficult because it was in the truck. IIRC it might have taken 2 people, one to guide it and put down pressure on and the other to twist and wiggle it around from the engine bay.

That's the one. So I found their website, and it seems like a pretty reputible company. Don't know how badly they could really screw up a 400 anyways. :dunno:

It is still tempting to do the rebuild myself. I'm thinking I could work on it over my lunch hours doing a little at a time. I just don't want there to be any problems. An 18mon warrantee is nice to have.

But for $600 I could do a good rebuild kit AND the lower first gear from TCI.

is it rebuilt or reconditioned? if its reconditioned, they tear it apart, fix only what is broken, slap it back together, and ship it. rebuilt, everything is usually replaced.

I wound up getting one off ebay. It was rebuilt at some point, local pickup only, and I got it for $125 IIRC. Been working great ever since.

Just looked at the dates, I can't believe it's been over 2yrs. :doah: And it
