I have a 71 4x4 Jimmy with a faulty sending unit. Since I have to pull the gas tank to get to the sending unit I decided to order the entire fuel tank kit(tank, sending unit, straps, sending unit seal, lock ring, and antisqueak straps) they have in the LMC truck catalog. Its my daily driver so My main concern is that when I pull it off there will be parts that need replacing that I won't have.

Do you think I might have to replace the gas tank filler hose? Anything else?

Also, in the Service Manual for this vehicle it says to "Cement" the antsqueak pads to the straps. What kinds of cement should I use?

Thanks!

I'll warn you before you get too far into it.

The metal LMC tanks require you to unsolder the metal filler neck from the old tank and re-solder/braze it onto the new tank. You'll probably need a radiator shop to do that for you. It's not that expensive.

If you got the plastic tank, it's a little more trouble since you can't solder plastic. I have a thread in here about them if you want pics.

Other than that it should be pretty easy. The rubber fuel hose is a pain to find. The "truck shop" down there was the only place I could find that had the right size.

I'm not entirely sure this is true i have one out in the shop right now from LMC and im pretty sure it has a filler neck on it.... ill check tomorrow

They have a filler neck on them, but it's not the same as the stock filler neck on any of the replacement tanks I've seen. Usually the replacements are just a straight 3" section of pipe that runs straight into a body mount. The stock blazer neck is longer and wraps around the body mount.

Edit: here's what the stock filler neck looks like.

ahhh well then i guess the tank that was in my blazer was a replacement that makes sense

Both can be made to work, but the straight neck it tougher if you don't have a body lift. If you have any kind of body lift, either tank will work ok.
