What are the advantages/disadvantages of a Getrag 5spd, verses any other manual tranny? (vs NV4500, SM465)

Anyone ever run a Getrag tranny?

I run an sm465 but would love to have a 5 speed manual. I have heard nothing but bad things about getrags, nothing specific, just that they are of poor performance. Of course at the moment I am looking into swapping in a cummins turbo diesel and they bolt to the getrags much easier.

I have heard that when you fill the Getrag with oil, you are supposed to put it in the fill hole until it comes out, then put an additional qt thru the top cover.
Most of the people I have seen with Getrags want to swap it out for a NV4500.

My friend has one in a 2001 Ram 2500. The truck has like 240,000 miles on it, it is on it's 2nd tranny right now and the synchros are going out of it. It has had the 5th gear worked on a few times. The truck did TONS of HARD pulling, and this may have had something to do w/ it too, but was always very well serviced.

He swapped a Getrag in? After 93, they were NV4500's IIRC.

You are pronouncing it all Wrong. It is not Getrag. It is GET RAG. /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

I always prounounce it get rag. But I've heard others pronounce it "gitrog" (a fast git with a long ahhhg sound). So, which way is right?
