People have been powder coating engines for some time. There is only one problem that I have personally seen when doing this. If the block is not boiled multiple times to remove all oils and impurities in the block, the coating may bubble or crack. The engine that a friend of mine did was blasted and dipped at the machine shop but turned out terrible. I talked to a guy the has a powder coating shop that did engines and trans cases on a regular basis and he showed me his process. He acid dips the parts and the dips them in 3-4 different chemicals to get all of the impurities out. He says otherwise when the parts are heated to make the p/c bond, all the oils and impurities boil to the surface as well and keeps the p/c from adhering to the part. His stuff came out great.
