Ok, I purchased my 4l80e from Bowtie. I have been on the phone with them several times today trying to figure out why my torque converter would not seat onto the input shaft.

I realized the piece below was what the converter was hitting. It looked like a seal but would spin around on the shaft. It also had the split in it so I carfully removed it. Is it suppose to be on the input shaft??? What is it? Anyone have an exploded view of a 4l80e? With this removed the converter slip on with ease.

My feeling is it is a spline protector but just want to make sure before I put the trans in. It was way down the shaft though, on the back side of the splines.

If that was on the input shaft of the tranny i'm sure it was to protect the tranny pump seal and YES it must be removed.

Yes, It's just a spline protector, My 700r4 came with one just like it from BTO

It was on the stationary shaft but behind the front seal. Never seen anything like it. All that I had ever seen would have been further out.

I just feel like a big ole idiot. I fought with this thing for six hours and was on the phone with BTO a half dozen times. None of us could figure it out.

I was ready to burn down the shop. It was driving me crazy. I should have known better.
