Question prolly belongs on a dodge forum, but I trust you guys so here goes..

one of our spare trucks is the wife's 98 durango with the 318.

I took the passenger front wheel off to investigate a rattle, and found that one of the caliper bolts ( lower ) had backed out, causing the caliper to shift a bit and make some racket down there.

the last shop to do the brakes used an air tool to put the wheel nuts on (assholes), so i am guessing they put the caliper bolts in with one too.

anyway, I can get the bolt to start and go it, but it won't snug. the bolt threads are a bit boogered, so I got new bolts, with the same result..it'll start and go in, but won't get tight.

anyone know offhand what size tap I need to buy to fix the threads in the bolt hole? are the sizes different between the dodge and GM?

Thanks!

Measure the new bolts and then just go one size bigger and get new bolts to match I would imagine.

they are 11mm iirc. heli coil is the only option. there isnt enough room to drill out the bolts bigger. also the bolts are not available bigger since its the slide pin for the caliper.
take the caliper bolt with you and get the right heli coil. im pretty sure they are 11mm, but i dont remember the thread pitch.

Thank you! :woot:

if its the style like a older ford escort / tempo then try the help section for a new self tap oversize thread bolt. should be same slide size for main body. but threads a little bigger.

fyi that style i never install or remove with air. just for that reason.

i have done that trick on a few mopar style vehicles. super comon on jeep wranglers and cherrokes.
