I been looking into them a little bit cuz my baby bro wants one as a off road toy. I think the non vert hardtops look pretty cool, with an exocage would rock. Also what do you guys think about a 2.8 GM v6 in one? It would fit easier than the 4.3 swaps i have seen.

i know a guy with a few. beats them. his big one is on toy axles and 40s. never gets busted

Zuks are best with the Toyota 22r and Toyota axels. Then accordingly add tires. The real old LJ80 is even smaller and had the old 1000cc engine. I know of a guy who used his for moose hunting. lol don’t ask.

You should check out the Samurai that they're building on Power Block...put some toyota axles, coil-overs, 4 linked it and cut the heck out if to put some wide 35" PitBulls on...then they put a saweet exo cage on it...

They are cheap and cool little rigs though...It'll definately be one of my next projects...

WOW these little things must be made of gold. Expect $3000 and up for a clean one that hasent been abused already.

cheap rigs, that float.. hardtops are really topheavy though... customer has an 88 for sale with 4" of lift a posi rear, new clutch, all terrain bfgs and tractor tires off a big scissor lift... for 1800 bucks..

oops sorry, was leaving when i saw this. theres pics asnyways

my friend bought an 86 a few months ago. hes not happy with the power. ive been trying to talk him into putting a 3100 v6 that i have laying around in it.

my bud has a pretty nice 87 soft top zuk, paid 1100 bucks for it. put a 3.5 in cal mini lift in it. I bent up a decent cage for it. he scored a, I think 96' or 97' geo tracker that had been rolled for the motor for 650 bucks. we are going to do the motor swap as soon as he gets the swap kit for it.

has to send the tracker wireing harness to a company to get it upgraded. other then that its an easy swap to a fuel injection motor. is running 29 in tall BFG mud terains and black steelies, looks tuff with the cage and wheels. we rebuilt the transfer case with a low gear kit in it. welding on cal mini rock sliders he has also. makes me want one too, but I have too many projects.

Owned Lots

I have owned a lot of these rigs and theyare probably my favorite for tough trails. Go over to pirate4x4 for more info. The most common engine swap is a later model 1.6L FI Geo engine to replace the 1.3L carb. You can get multiple aftermarket transfer case gears, as low as 8:1! If someone has one with the VW turbodiesel conversion and is looking to trade, I have a built Blazer available.

I just traded mine for the k5 i am currently building.
It was locked f&r full cage, sliders, bumpers, t/case gears, jeep eater yj spring suspension. It was pretty impresive just not what i wanted in a rock/trail rig. It was too small, too slow, too little power, too little tires on stock axles, too short, carbed. It was a fairly inexpensive rig to build. It had to be towed everywhere.
So I went from one extreme to the other.:D

On the engine swap subject,

I used to have a S10 pickup with a 2.5. Not the blow up 2.8 motor. It was rWD and had a 5 speed behind it. Ran excellent Pushed that s10 down the road as fast as you wanted to go,then I hit a bridge, twice. I had thought about that as a motor swap candidate.

I have owned several (hence my username) I love them. I personally feel like the only worthwhile swaps are a VW diesel or a 1600 16v out of a kick. Also the 2.0 swap would be sweet. One of a samis greatest attributes is light weight, mine only weighed 2200 lbs without me in it and all my spare parts and tools. Put toy axles in it and wheel the heck out of it. A properly built 1.3 can work well in them I could do 80 mph in mine with 33s Of course I also was revving near 5 grand at 80. :eek1:
