So i blew the engine in my 2015 lml ccsb duramax only 126k on it I went to pass someone and right about 3200 rpm my engine stumbled right before it shifted. And then it was shaking and way down on power. I looked in the rear view mirror and I smoked out the whole highway.

After it was towed home i checked the codes. #2 misfire. I pulled number 2 injector and it was covered in engine oil. I’m pretty sure I broke a piston. I think I had an injector stick open and caused it.

anyway I have a few parts questions. i want to be able to handle twins in the future 750-800whp range. planning to go back with 30-45 overs and a 10mm stroker injector pump. Also a stage 2 firing order swap cam.

What pistons should I go back with? i have been looking at the mahle pistons with the reliefs cut. Or what others should I be looking at? And i was hoping to get by with a not so crazy expensive set of rods on the factory crank…

i plan on all new gaskets, studs, etc. any recommendations on parts would be great. I am going to slowly start buying parts and get everything ready to build. Hopefully by Christmas I will be able to start rebuilding. My truck will be parked for awhile… i hope to build it as cheap as possible, but still make it stronger than stock

My understanding is that the pistons are the weakest part. Throw some new ones in and keep the stock crank and rods. Getting that model year over 700hp should be pretty simple. I'd do a CP3 conversion on it to get rid of the problematic CP4.

so I found a rebuild kit with mahle pistons that are cut .075 for the cam I want to install. it is 3500 with bearings and gaskets and studs.

add 1800 for a budget set of rods if necessary.. I really wanna add twins in the future and I don't thing the factory rods will handle twins.... I would be willing to bet that rod is bent now too lol.

I think that the kit i found is the budget mahle version, but have to be better than stock... Hopefully anyway...

And that's why I no longer play with diesels. My complete rotating assembly with bearings on my 383 was only $1600 haha.
